The Handler
Name: Anna-Sophia Cisneros
Nickname: Phia
Classification: Monstrous Human (Magician)
Gender: Female
Age & Birthday: 24, October 7th
Appearance:) Phia shows more of her mother's Black Irish blood than her father's Hispanic influence. She's 5'10" tall and on the curvaceous side of 219 lbs, with long limbs and a bright smile. She is obsessive about caring for her skin which is a pleasant shade of olive with rosy cheeks and lips and a generous sprinkling of freckles across her nose. It's also dry, with a brutal t-spot, creating painful blackheads. Her face is rounded with impishly-pointed features and her hands and feet are long, dexterous and thin.
Phia's dark brown hair is curly to the point of unruly. Its obnoxious texture means it frequently escapes her severe buns and braids in wisps around her face and ears. There are natural dark red highlights in there, giving her hair a glitter that suits her lively personality. Due to a butchered spell, her eyes have gone from brown to gray and she needs glasses or contacts to be able to function visually. She bears a few scars, one under her knee from a bike accident when she was eight, one on her left shoulder from the bullet that almost killed her and three claw marks on her ribs from a run-in with some irate cultists. There's an old fashioned tattoo of a dagger stabbed heart on her left shoulder blade, with a ribbon reading "Isabelle Antoinette Cisneros".
Attire:
Her everyday attire usually consists of Gothic-style clothing, mostly along the Victorian/Vintage lines, Mary Jane-style slippers or granny boots, and striped stockings. She wears a lot of jewelry, strings of pearls and beads, amulets and symbols that mean something to her, though rarely to excess. She doesn't show off too much skin, preferring to let tailoring and color show off her looks. Her "dress uniform" is a black and silver pinstriped suit, with a simple gray french-cuffed blouse, black stockings, and gray tweed heels or ankle-high boots, depending on the situation. Her only jewelry is a discreet pearl set in black, white, or gray and a brooch depicting "Our Lady of the Streets", the Virgin and Child as homeless people, generally affixed to a silk scarf. Combat sees her stretchy black "yoga pants", a red top with a red rose on it (see code name) and a black flak jacket. She keeps weapons, magical tools and other small necessities on a thick red leather belt.
The Creation
Name: Rose Red
Power List:
(1) Witch Magic
(2) Empathy
Detailed Power:
Witch Magic- Phia, as a child, had a remarkable talent for sensing magic and manipulating physical and spiritual energies. This has developed into slightly above average magical ability. These are mostly framed as prayers, or little rituals, both Judeo-Christian and Wiccan in style. Though, flashy spells are difficult, if not impossible, she has cultivated a few useful spells, including a mana missile-type spell, a weak shielding spell, and a few potent healing and cleansing spells. All her spells require an incantation, be it a simple nursery rhyme about flying or an elaborate prayer to St. Cipriano against magical harm
Empathy- Anna-Sophia is very good at sensing the emotional and physical health of others. This is very useful in the field, though when she's tired, it goes haywire and she becomes TOO receptive. If her friend has been shot in the leg, she will feel that hot, stabbing pain and limp around until she can rest. If everyone is angry, she'll be snappish for hours. She can, with a great deal of concentration, project emotions, but its exhausting.
The Potential
Alignment/Occupation: BRPD, Occult Specialist, Field Agent
Weapons: (If any)A switchblade knife, an oak and rosewood walking cane, topped with a steel knob, that aids in her spell-casting, as well as functioning as a serviceable cudgel. Also, a blessed .22 automatic she refers to as Isabelle. The standard Glock nearly broke her wrist the first time she tried it, so she sticks with a smaller weapon.
Personality:
Anna-Sophia is a lively, friendly girl. She has a weakness for animals and children and generally has a soft heart. She's ridiculously easy to butter up, so she's gained the reputation of the Department Doormat. She doesn't even think to grumble unless its truly a problem. She's nothing if not reliable. If you tell her to do something, she'll break her back to do it. She is devoted to the memory of and idolizes her late twin sister, Isabelle.
Phia can't stand being as much of a pushover as she is, but danged if she can stop. She's not really weak-willed, just far too sweet for her own good. Nor does this keep her from defending herself or her methods in a tight corner. She's also rabidly loyal to the Department. They saved her life and she's sure that any "Wrong" they do is for a better, higher purpose. Through no fault of the Department or anyone else, Phia is painfully naive and when she doesn't understand something or is embarrassed by a topic, she will toy with whatever little object she carries in her pockets. As much of a flirt as she is, she's not as worldly as she looks.
When it comes to field work, Anna-Sophia tries to think first and have a plan, before blustering into a fight. That, in fact, is one of the few sore points she has. She can't abide stupidity or cockiness, and will dish out a good tongue lashing to a teammate she feels is being overly gung-ho. She'll get a bit antsy before a mission, but that's more due to her trying not to think of what might go wrong.
Skills: Phia is an avid knitter. Her computer skills are phenomenal and she speaks fluent Spanish, and a sprinkling of Russian, with growing knowledge of Latin, Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew. She's been playing the piano since she was nine, so she's not bad, and has a very sweet singing voice, though there's no chance of ever being offered a record deal. She's also an Occult nerd, with her expertise mostly in New World religion and magic.
Strengths: Phia took kickboxing lessons in college and picked up knife-fighting from an ex-gangbanger boyfriend. The cudgel fighting, she took up mostly for kicks, but has found to be useful in the field where all she has his her magical tools and adrenaline. Phia's always been good with a computer and hacking kept her fed and entertained in college. She's still a devil with an internet connection, helped out by her natural eidetic memory.
Weaknesses: Despite countless dance classes and martial arts seminars, Phia is an eternal klutz. It's guaranteed that someone thought about banning her from wearing heels to work, until they realized that flats would just make her break something higher up. Unfortunately, she has a low pain threshold, too. While she'll rarely admit it, any pain is a hardship for her. Add to that her slow reflexes, which are inconvenient in a knife fight, and troubling in a clumsy moment. She's also a lousy swimmer, just barely able to dog-paddle and flounder her way across a pool. Since she joined the BPRD, she's gotten really jumpy, too.
The Story
History: Anna-Sophia and Isabelle Cisneros were born in the small hours of the morning in a cold October in NW Washington DC. Their father, Mario, was a pharmacist, who worked as a curandera for the other Hispanic families in the area. Their mother, Antoinette, retired early from teaching algebra to be a stay-at-home mother.
Right away, the girls established their own pecking order. Isabelle was the tomboy and the leader, getting into scraps with the neighborhood boys and being more interested in fencing lessons at the Y than singing in the church choir with Phia. Phia was always the meek sister, hiding behind her "Belle" and defending her sister when punishment was at hand.
When the girls were twelve, their father ran afoul of a local gang. Late one night, around New Year's Eve, the gangsters broke in and killed Phia's mother and Belle, wounding Phia, before killing her father. Somehow, a shot meant to be fatal missed her vitals and when the police arrived, she was whisked away to the hospital.
Once she had recovered, Anna-Sophia's grandmother took her in. A powerful bruja, Abuelita saw potential in Phia and taught her to use magic. She was determined to make sure that her only remaining relative had the opportunity to thrive and live a normal life, even if that meant she had to cheat a little with a spell or two. Abuelita's dying gifts to Phia were her own Madonna brooch and the money to go to college, with the stipulation that she get out of DC and stay away for the next four years.
Phia got into a lot of shady practices in college. Mostly she practiced casting curses on her rivals and hacking bank accounts for beer and shoe money. But she managed to graduate with a double major in Anthropology and Psychology and moved back to DC in the hopes that she could get a job at the Smithsonian. When the job offers were slow in coming, she hacked a little cult database.
The cult tracked her down and tried to exact its revenge. Thankfully, the BPRD had caught wind of Phia's doings and saved her in the nick of time. Then they gave her a choice; go to prison for her crimes or hook up with the BPRD and use her powers for "legally sanctioned" rather than "morally questionable". Phia needed no further prodding and joined the BPRD as a field agent.
