The Handler
Name: Anung un Rama.
Nickname: Hellboy.
Classification: Demon.
Gender: Male.
Age & Birthday: December 23, 1944. Going on 64 years old.
Appearance: To put it bluntly, Hellboy isn't pretty. His lips are unnaturally thin, giving the illusion his mouth is just a slit cut into his face. His eyes are set so far back in his head that his brow hangs low over them. He has a short, hawk-like nose that sits far above his mouth. That's not even calling into account the blood-red skin, horns, tail, and extremely disproportionate right arm.
Hellboy's jet black hair seems to compliment the bright crimson of his skin. In contrast, his amber eyes clash it. He's never thought of getting contacts, though. What's the use, he asks. Hardly anyone looks him in the eye - they always seem to be preoccupied with his horns (which he files down to circular stumps; he believes it helps him 'blend in').
With the exception of the top of his scalp, Hellboy has a full head of hair. He keeps it pulled back in a tight samurai-style ponytail. It grows down the side of his face into bushy mutton chops. The facial hair doesn't stop there, though; he also sports a neatly trimmed goatee.
Standing at 6'7" and clocking in at over 300 pounds, Hellboy isn't one to be messed with. If his body was human proportioned, he would be short and stocky. Since his build is so much bigger than a person's, though, he has the look of a professional wrestler or bodybuilder. Starting from the tips of the fingers on his right arm, intricate swirling lines make their way up to his right shoulder. Hellboy isn't sure why he has them, but he thinks it might have something to do with the magical properties of his right arm.
Attire: As Hellboy is blessed with a monstrosity of a right arm, most of his clothes have to be specially tailored so that they do not rip when he attempts to put his stone arm through the sleeve. Thus, he does not have a wide variety of clothing to choose from. His choice of tops consists of an expansive selection of identical black half-sleeve shirts made out of a combination of stretchy materials and cotton. When the weather turns colder, Hellboy dons a heavy trench coat. The right sleeve has snaps built in so that he can take it on and off without much hassle.
Hellboy has taken a liking to loose-fitting pants that allow him free movement when he needs it yet still show off his great legs. His leather sash is more of a utility belt than an item for keeping his pants up. The numerous pouches and pockets house a host of curious trinkets that have some supernatural worth.
Since Hellboy is never officially off duty, he wears the same type of attire all of the time, minus the belt.
The Creation
Name: Red.
Power List: A resistance to fire and physical injury and superhuman strength, among other things.
Detailed Power: Hellboy has a few obvious abilities, such as superhuman strength and a limited resistance to injury. He has been known to toss heavy opponents many yards away using only one hand; he has also been known to take blows that would severely kill or even injure a human and have little or no discomfort after wards.
Most likely do to his being a demon, Hellboy is impervious to fire. He also seems to have a limited resistance to being electrocuted, as well. He is able to be harmed by conventional means, although with his accelerated healing factor, he doesn't stay wounded for long.
The Potential
Alignment/Occupation: Primary agent for the BPRD, albeit only called upon in extreme circumstances.
Weapons: Aside from his stone arm, Hellboy's only other weapon is an over sized revolver dubbed the Good Samaritan, which is fashioned from melted Irish church bells, blessed silver, and cold iron from crucifixes. It is also rumored that the wooden grips are carved from fragments of the True Cross.
Personality: A self-described lover of fighting, Hellboy is just that. He'd choose violence over peace any day, mostly because he's good at kicking ass. His stone right hand, combined with his superhuman strength, can bring down almost any foe, and Hellboy knows it. So he's a little cocky; it's acceptable, as he saves the world on an almost daily basis.
As the only 'child' of Trevor Bruttenholm, Hellboy was, and still is, spoiled. He almost always gets his way, and can throw a mean temper tantrum when he doesn't. He isn't too keen on taking orders, especially if he's already in a bad mood.
Though rough around the edges, Hellboy isn't always a rough-and-tumble kind of guy. He's compassionate toward cats, and nothing else really. The few agents that have managed to earn his respect are treated almost as nicely as his cats.
Skills: As Hellboy grew up in the Bureau, he has been around long enough to pick up a few tricks. He is able to interpret a few of the ancient magic languages. He also has a decent knowledge of how to handle most of the common supernatural beasties. Although it isn't much of a skill, he also excels in drinking contests.
Strengths: Hellboy doesn't tire easily, allowing for more of a chance of success during combat. His right hand is pretty indestructible, so that helps. While he's no Napoleon, he can formulate a decent strategy when it's needed of him.
Weaknesses: Aiming. Hellboy knows he's a lousy shot, which is probably why his revolver is so big. Puzzles and riddles confuse him; he isn't stupid, he just likes taking the easy way out. His temper is also a big fault, as well. That, and he isn't to happy with criticism.
The Story
History: Hellboy was summoned near the end of World War II by Grigori Rasputin, a Russian mystic who frequently dabbled in the occult. A small Army squad, accompanied by member of the British Paranormal Society, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, discovered him in a rundown church on December 23, 1944. After coaxing him out of hiding with a Baby Ruth bar, Professor Bruttenholm decided to take care of the small red child, and christened him Hellboy,
The United States Army took him back to their base in New Mexico, where he lived with the professor for most of his childhood. When the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense was founded, the small family moved to the headquarters.
As he grew, Hellboy was taught about the different races of the magical and supernatural. He also learned how to comprehend some of the ancient magic languages. In time, he grew to be the Bureau's primary agent, soon to be accompanied by other agents with varying abilities. One person in particular stuck out - Elizabeth Sherman.
Hellboy had taken a fancy to the pyrokinetic, and while he was more than willing to give her everything he had, she seemed a bit reluctant to get too close. Every time she left the Bureau, he would sneak out of his room to visit her. Hellboy believed he had almost lost her to a new agent, John Myers, but after an ordeal of world-saving, he and Liz became involved, thus enticing her to come back to the BPRD for good.
When yet another force threatened the world, Hellboy seemed to be caught up in a whirlwind. A crazy elf prince named Nuada wanted to kill off the humans, which wasn't good because Liz was human, so Hellboy want to kill the elf but he couldn't because his best friend Abe was in love with the prince's twin sister Nuala, who was linked to the prince physically and mentally.
Eventually it came down to a battle between Hellboy and Nuada. Since he had promised Abe that he would not harm the prince, Hellboy had a rough time trying to best the nimble elf. Nuada gained the upper hand and thrust a spear into Hellboy's breast. Enchanted with some sort of magic, the blade could not be removed by conventional means.
Hellboy, Liz, Abe, and new agent Johann Kraus hijacked a government plane to find Nuada and save Nuala. During their quest, they stumbled upon a goblin, who agreed take them to Nuada in exchange for the blade stuck in Hellboy's chest. When they told him they were unable to remove it, the goblin took them to the lair of the Angel of Death, who extracted the bit of metal, but could not revive Hellboy. Liz revealed that she was pregnant with Hellboy's child, which gave him a reason to live.
With newfound purpose, the team continued on to find Prince Nuada. When they finally got to him, Hellboy challenged him for the right to command the Golden Army, the means of destruction that the prince planned on releasing upon the human race. He finally overcame Nuada and spared his life for Nuala's sake.
Shortly afterward, Liz left the Bureau without so much as a warning. Hellboy became even more of an alcoholic than he already was, distressed by her departure. Many a night Barry Manilow had been heard at full volume, while Hellboy sang along drunkenly.
Unknown to Hellboy, however, Liz has once more returned to the Bureau, hopefully for good.
