The Handler
Name: Luzige Madu (Ashai Ramman)
Nickname: Ashai, Lulu, Luzige
Classification: Lilitu
Gender: Male
Age & Birthday: Looks about 37; Born sometime in what could be October 653 BC
Appearance: He looks to be African American with the light caramel color of what some refer to as high yellow. His eyes are jasper flecked with gold, semi-deep set, a very strong nose and thick lips. He has deep cheekbones and a high forehead. He used to wear his hair shaved, but now wears it in long dreadlocks to his shoulders. His eyebrows are delicate. His skin bears the marks of time: acne pockmarks from teenage years on his arms, a scattering of freckles across his cheeks, arms, and back; thick scars from whips and lashes across his back, shoulders, and the back of his legs; knife and gunshot wound scars from his time on the high seas as a pirate; and three light scars on his left inner thigh from a claw mark of an over excitable one night stand. Over time all the scars have grown smooth, shiny and light pink over his light skin. Around his left wrist is an intricate be-spelled tattoo he usually kept hidden by a bracelet.
His body is well maintained. He achieves a high muscle mass without working for it. His body is free of hair naturally. His hands are large and strong with long fingers. His fingernails are kept short. He has runner’s legs and agile feet with long toes. The bottom of his feet are very pink as are the palms of his hands. He stands at about six feet tall and three inches.
His Lilitu form looks very owlish as in he has the head of an owl that’s been crossed with a human. Across the bridge of his small owl beak are scales. The scales fade into dark gray, black and brownish amber colored feathers. His eyes are set forward like all predator’s eyes are, golden with black rings around the iris. The tawny feathers fade across his head into his black dreadlocks. The feathers fade into scaly skin to about mid-chest. The rest of his body is human, much like his human form, save for his skin is dark mottled brown and black. The skin is rough like leathery scales and very tough. At the end of his hands are talons instead of fingernails. He has the tail of a lion. His legs and feet are normal human-like appendages. In this form, he stands at seven feet tall, three inches. In any other aspect, he is a normal man.
Attire: He usually wears next to nothing, preferring the feel of the sun on his skin. When traveling he prefers natural fibers, a lot of cotton, linen, and hemp. He isn’t one for t-shirts and jeans. His clothes are all hand-made just for him. He likes comfortable clothing, and warm colors. His dislikes bright patterns and never wears all black. He always has some sort of color in his clothing. His shoes are usually trendy. He likes jewelry, having a large collection he wears and keeps.
The Creation
Name: Luzige Madu
Power List:
* Glamour
**Abnormal Strength
*** Compass/Tracker
Detailed Power:
*Glamour: The ability to mask his true appearance. The Lilitu people are few and far between because of their mating and conception rituals. In the modern era, Luzige is one of the last of the Lilitu people. His owl-like appearance does not grant him any special power, even though his people are said to heal quickly, call the storms, control blight and produce pestilence. He can only produce a strong glamour to mask his true appearance. The glamour produce is an ongoing magic that can be dropped at will and called back into function on a whim, any other time it’s an unconscious occurrence, like breathing. When in his owl-like Lilitu form, he is a foot taller then in his human form. When going to each form, his glamour activating or deactivating, it looks as if his feathers are growing from his skin quickly and he rises or shrinks as if standing straight or slouching low.
**Abnormal Strength: Stronger then a normal man or even a troll, he can lift heavy loads, up to about 500 lbs without trouble. Anything over 900lbs and he must have help or can not lift it at all. This ability comes in handy when attacking his prey or if he is attacked.
***Compass/Tracker: Luzige has the unique talent of being able to find anything, this is a rare talent among the Lilitu and hardly ever recognized as a true talent. Like a bloodhound, in his creature form, he can find whatever is put to him. He has a keen sense of direction that allows him to find his goal.
The Potential
Alignment/Occupation: Nuada’s Army
Weapons: Prefers to use: Deer Horn Knives (also called crescent moon blades, a blade curved very much like the crescent moon, held by hand holds in the middle. Chinese origins), jambiya (an Arabic dagger), or scythe (long handled, like the kind used the in fields for harvest). Can Use if Handy: Mallet, sword, glaive, pike, staff, and pistols and rifles dating before the 1940s.
Personality: Luzige is resigned to his thoughts, almost coldly stoic when summoned by his mistress to do a job. Bound by magic, he does as he is told and acts accordingly, like a servant. He shows no emotion, or at least tries to in the presence of others. He keeps to formality, addressing others only when spoken to and will only speak the truth. In his mistress’s presence, when alone, he will smile and melt his chilly exterior for her alone. He wishes to know her intimately, deeming her the most beautiful woman in the world. He does anything she wishes.
When not in her presence, back at his home, he is easy going. He isn’t open with his feelings, but tries to be helpful to the older women and other shop owners of his neighborhood. He is said to be a ‘nice young man’ by the older women of his neighborhood and always embarrassed when they try to fix him up with pretty young ladies. He dislikes sexual advances by women or men, seeing himself as a one woman man. He dislikes the ‘human scum’ that roams the city, IE: drug dealers, pimps, muggers, rapists, ect. He usually hunts for them when he needs to feed, which isn’t very often. He likes warm places, warm colors, and warm people. He always seeks out good bargains be it jewelry or furniture to fix up and resell. He thinks this is a habit he picked up while scavenging during WW2. He likes to make jewelry which he sells at his shop, and is always bringing a pretty with him when his mistress summons him.
Skills: Adept at fighting with bladed weapons, map reading (land and sea), map making, and ship navigation. He can be called a farmer just as well as carpenter. Familiar with human technology including: cars, computers, cell phones, television, cable/ satellite dishes, DVD players, video game consoles, and electrical wiring. He’s an avid movie buff, with a large movie collection. He enjoys going to the movie theater. He never watches regular TV, only movies. He has an arsenal of languages in his mind, but mostly regional dialects that no longer have any relevance to modern times. He can speak Arabic, Armenian, Greek, Portuguese, Spanish, French, and English. He is also fluent in American Sign Language. He has knowledge of constellations and stars, as well as ship navigation, operation, maintenance, and service of sailing ships. He has a vast knowledge of gemstones, jewelry and jewelry making. Familiar with cannon weaponry before the 18th century and guns dating to the 1940s, but not after.
Strengths: He gains strength from thunder storms, but can not control them as his father could. He is a skilled fighter with fist and blade. He enjoys being useful and needed. He can concentrate on a task for long periods of time without food but not without sleep. Stray dogs are strangely attracted to him, which he uses to his advantage, finding them homes or using them as food if they are too sick. He can blend with humans better then most of his kind.
Weaknesses: His biggest weakness is the binding of the Name. Anyone who knows his True Name can control him by the binds that tie him to his people. Other weakness include: the cold (he is a creature of warm places and dislikes the cold), in closed spaces (claustrophobia, being buried alive twice for centuries puts him off of elevators), cruelty to women and children, a pretty face, new movies, and sex makes him extremely uncomfortable.
The Story
History: Luzige was born in the days of Tanwetamani to an Assyrian slave in Egypt. His mother was a rape victim of a night demon as she came back from fetching water for her family. She was lucky, she was married by that time and thought the baby was her husband’s. Luzige was a blessing on the house as the first son. He was not known as Luzige at this time, they called him Ashai. He was put to work at a very young age, three, as soon as he was able. His mother had five more children before her death during the sixth child-birth. She and the child died, leaving eight year old Luzige, his three brothers and two sisters.
Luzige was not sad for long, it was the mark of the times, it was just…life. His aunt took care of the smaller children as he, his father, and two younger brothers went to work. They worked as carpenters for a royal house. Luzige worked under his father, learning the trade to take his place someday, but hat someday never came. His father was falsely charged with assaulting a guard and put to death while his family was sold. Luzige was shipped off down the Nile and transported to Rome, never seeing any of his family again. He was sold to a shipping yard to work as a ship builder. He worked here until he was 14. His master, the owner of the ship yard, lost Luzige while gambling and his new master brought him back up the Nile back into Egypt.
It was about this time he started going by the name of Luzige Madu. He lived in a small slave village and worked as a carpenter building furniture. He was always thought of as a good man until the locusts came and the slaves saw that Luzige wasn’t normal. He had been working in the fields to gather food for his fellow slaves when a swarm of locusts has settled over the field. Luzige was untouched while others had been bitten. After that, his fellow slaves avoided him. They were afraid of him, noticing how the minor wounds of cuts and scratches in everyday work didn’t afflict him, he never seemed to grow ill, or grow weary. The only thing that seemed to harm him was the lash of the overseer. He did sustain major wounds when, while working in a ship yard, a mast broke and killed two men, inuring several. Luzige’s arm was broken but it healed clean, and abnormally quickly.
He had always found it easy to attract women and men alike, but never bedded them. At 25 he met a girl he wanted to marry. She was beautiful and young, and he was smitten, doing anything she asked of him. They were married quickly and he moved her to his small home. They prepared for their first night as husband and wife when she told him she was the victim of a sexual demon, and as her husband, he was duty bound to kill it. Luzige laid a trap for the monster and when he found the demon coming to his wife, he chased the demon out into the desert and confronted him. They battled, the demon surprised that this human slave could keep up so easily. The demon struck Luzige, incapacitating him, and was able to look him over.
The demon knew a child of his loins and told Luzige as much. He wouldn’t hear of it until the demon revealed Luzige’s True Name. Luzige was helplessly stunned as the demon worked his magic and a storm swept over the slave encampment, destroying everything, killing hundreds including Luzige’s new wife. Luzige was taken away by the demon, against his will, being controlled by his True Name and he was taken to Greece, where the demon lived.
He was exposed to a world he did not know or had ever heard of among trolls, spirits, elves, and hundreds of other kinds of supernatural beings. He loved like a human, ate and drank, slept; he felt like a human, looked like one and now he was told he wasn‘t? His father explained to Luzige that he was the product of Lilitu seed and a Lilitu egg implanted in a human womb. The mother was suppose to come for the child, but died before she could. They were a long lived race of the desert, creatures sometimes called Anzu, because of their owlish looks. It was at this time that Luzige saw his true face behind the glamour he didn’t even know he was generating. His people were long lived, unable to die unless struck down, invulnerable to illness, and immensely strong. He met the women of his kind, they were lovely creatures that could bring plagues and famine as the men could call the storms.
He was revolted when his father told him that the Lilitu needed to feed on live creatures to survive. His father showed him how to hunt and how to eat: in his Lilitu form, his jaw unhinged much like a snake’s to swallow animals smaller then a goat whole, but he had to rip larger animals and humans to large pieces with his strength and claws. They would be incapacitated for a few hours to digest, but the meal would last them weeks or months depending on the size of prey. Luzige was forced to do this by his father and afterwards found he was energized like he had never been before. He loathed taking the life of a living creature and tried to not kill humans if he could help it, but if he had to, he preferred that the human was cruel or villainous so at least he deserved to die.
Between his 26th and his 39th years, he lived among the magical folk. He learned of the magical world and it’s laws, what his limits of his newly discovered heritage were, and traveled freely for the first time in his life. In his travels, saw the horrors of the battlefield, how man turned on man, and how the fairy folk felt about humans. He saw the fairy folk trying to live just as the humans were and only their differences limited them to a peaceful existence. He was hesitant to voice these opinions to his father, who supported the war against the humans. Luzige was slowly being driven mad by his constant companion. His father would not leave him in peace for a moment, always forcing him to witness some act of punishment to human slaves or magical folk that broke the law.
He returned to Egypt in his 40th year; this was the year he killed his father, took back his name, and was buried alive. His father met him in Egypt after attending to business in another land, allowing Luzige to return to Egypt on his own. They were to meet with some people about buying land, the land was found to contain lapis lazuli and turned into a mine. It was an already greatly established mining operation when bought by the men. Luzige took charge of operating it until his father returned; it was easy, too easy, and it bored Luzige to watch the slaves all day working hard. Luzige wasn’t the kind of man to just watch while others did the work, he had been a slave and that life had been ingrained into him for a very early age, he could sometimes still feel the sting of the lash on his back. Luzige decided to work along with the slaves, starting with those that built the supports for the walls of the mine. He had the carpentry experience and this work gave him purpose again, instead of just wandering about aimlessly. His father returned to Egypt and found that his son was doing the work of slaves again.
Luzige had finished feeding on a slave that had been caught stealing. He has just finished when he saw his father come from the darkness and knew his father was angry by the storm clouds that gathered above. Luzige returned to the mine, hoping to postpone the conflict but his father followed, shouting insults about what Luzige was doing, working like a common slave! Luzige saw no shame in it, he had once been a slave. His father struck him and Luzige, angry, struck back. The two engaged in heated battled and Luzige struck a killing blow with a chisel before his father could invoke his son‘s True Name to control him agian.
Luzige was momentarily incapacitated as he felt the magic of his True Name being returned to him. An earthquake shook the land while Luzige lay incapacitated deep within the mine and just as Luzige came around, the mine collapsed, burying him alive. Luzige did not know how long he was buried, he thought he would go mad from hunger and thirst. Another earthquake unburied the mine and Luzige awoke, able to free himself. He was a living skeleton, unable speak and only able to crawl. He hid away for weeks feeding on insects and the occasional stray dog giving him enough strength to overtake a human that had happened by.
He found himself in a different world, finding himself now in the year 1458. His family was dead and long gone, all of his friends had almost forgotten him. His father’s friends remember him though, and greeted him less then warmly. They asked him where his father was and Luzige told them he was dead. They were angry and tried to capture Luzige, but he escaped, fleeing Egypt. He was lucky, the friends of his father were not Lilitu, only goblins that were owed money. He wanted to fight them, but he was still weak.
He traveled to Greece, blending in and learning the history that he had missed. The magical folk were a huge help, giving him information about the changed and ever changing world. He found it was a strange world, but people still sinned, loved, laughed, and killed.
He took to the ships, tiring of the land that had buried him alive, and lived among the pirates. He built up a great fortune, stealing from the pirates that stole from others and adding to the catches of gold he and his father had hidden many years ago. He bought his way into high society in Spain using a Spaniard as a front because the color of his skin marked him as a slave. He and the Spaniard traveled together for many years, watching as the Americas were discovered, the world grew larger, the Age of Enlightenment filled the new larger world with art, music, and philosophy and Luzige enjoyed it. He went on, ageless, when his companion died, he paid a new one to take his place. When he grew bored of high society, he became a pirate on the high seas again.
Nothing significant happened within these years until 1699. He had traveled from Spain to Italy and then took a ship across the ocean. He took up as a crew member on a pirate ship in the warm waters of the Caribbean. He gave his story as being a runaway slave. It was at this time he let his hair grow out into the fine dreadlocks he wears to this day. He lived among the pirates until 1789 when he returned to Egypt once again, sure that he would be safe from old enemies after being gone for so long.
He was living on a ship on the Nile when he received a message from a friend, a reclusive dwarf who had been having trouble with humans. Luzige was happy to help. He traveled to the valley where the dwarf lived, somewhere in the fertile crescent of Egypt. He helped his friend take care of the humans that were trying to mine gold from his friend’s land, killing them swiftly. On the way back to his home, he was accosted on the roadway. He came face to face with his father’s old friends. They disarmed him, robbed him, beat him and then tossed the body they thought was dead into a human burial tomb.
Luzige stayed buried again until he was uncovered by solders. It was during WW2 and patrol of Nazi soldiers had encamped outside a small village near the pyramid where Luzige was buried. A few treasure seekers had opened the tomb to see what they could find and found a hungry Luzige. He decimated the few soldiers that had tried to break in. The first soldier was stupid and wondered into the chamber where Luzige had been asleep alone. Luzige ripped him apart, only taking enough to allow him to take down the others. He feasted, growing stronger and very lucky that the small group of soldiers weren’t missed until he was strong enough to take care of the rest of the patrol unit.
He discovered the year, shocked once again at the passage of time, going from 1800 to 1938! He had to relearn how to fit in with the humans, again. This took longer, because not only of the war, but the magical society which had helped him before seemed to have gone underground, hidden away from the large human population. He lived almost like an animal for months, stealing books and supplies from houses and killing soldiers for food. When he felt he could pass in the human society, he traveled through war torn Europe looking for any magical folk he could find. He soon discovered a group of elves that were traveling to England and joined their band. He left their company in London, finding a small home to live in in 1939, just before the start of the Blitz.
He had been hurt in several bombings as he traveled across war torn Europe, but nothing too serious, usually minor scratches or abrasions, nothing that left physical scars. He was badly hurt during a night bombing, a piece of falling plaster pinned him to the chimney, breaking several ribs and his right leg and he was luckily found by a group a British soldiers. They took him to a small church where he was nursed back to health by a very nice older woman. He repaid the favor by helping rebuild her own destroyed house and run her errands and in return, she gave him room and board. She also taught him how to make jewelry when she saw his knowledge of gemstones.
He lived in London until 1960, living normally, as a human. He had a little flat, did his shopping at the local market, and helped his neighbors when they needed it. During this time of living, he had built up his connections with what was left of the magical world and tracked down his father’s friends. When he was sure he found them, he sold his home and left London. He tracked them, found them, and killed them. He did this out of vengeance and protection for himself, he was unsure if they knew his True Name or not. If they did, they could not control him now. Once this task was over, he traveled to the United States for a fresh start. It was 1972. He was a bit rusty on human interaction, having gone underground in the 60’s, among the magical folk to track down his would be assassins.
He found an apartment in New York City. He says he makes a living as a cabinet maker, which could be true enough since he owns a shop that makes and sells custom furniture. He takes money, mostly, from his victims. The drug dealers and mobsters. During the early 1990s, he moved to another spot in New York City so the humans wouldn’t be aroused to his never changing age.
For the last five years, he has been in the service of Adara Caladwen Peloquin. Rumor of his ability in tracking had made it's way to her. He knew of her and her family because he frequented the Troll market and knew the magical society. He saw her as a beautiful being, but unattainable. He was summoned to her home to find her and the son of one of his father's old friends. The son had been given the key to Luzige's weakness and was paid handsomely for it by Adara. His first act under his new master: kill the son. Anger coursed threw Luzige as he dispatched the man that made Luzige a slave once more. He was then branded with a spell-tattoo ring around his left wrist that would burn when Adara wanted him and burn gradually hotter until he was in her presence. He would be a slave to Adara until her death… or his.
When he was summoned to her, he was shocked, and even more so when he became her lap dog. He had hoped his time as a slave was at an end, but he does not mind so much at this time because he is smitten with the fair Adara. Is it the spell around his wrist that makes him love her, maybe the deep magic that she holds and binds his True Name? She is at least somewhat fair, allowing him to live and work in his shop unless she needs him.
