While browsing 4chan's /tg/ board, I came on a "Humanity Sucks" thread, and decided to examine it...this is one of the military f**k ups I read about:
The Goddamn Emu War. Coupled with a screenshot of the Wikipedia article.
Being curious, and laughing slightly, I searched Wikipedia for this strange war and got immediate results.

This is utterly mind-blowing. The Australian army was mobilised with goddamn machine guns to help cull the numbers of the Emu in Western Australia, and the most hilarious thing is that the operation was a failure, and there is even a bloody quote about the defeat too:
"The machine-gunners' dreams of point blank fire into serried masses of Emus were soon dissipated. The Emu command had evidently ordered guerrilla tactics, and its unwieldy army soon split up into innumerable small units that made use of the military equipment uneconomic. A crestfallen field force therefore withdrew from the combat area after about a month."
