I haven't finished him yet, but I was just reading this and had an idea - maybe von Klempt could be the backer? It'd stand to reason that some of the things he'd need for his experiments would be rather hard to acquire, even to the point that they're under lock and key somewhere.

Just a thought; if it's not really workable, that's totally fine.
