The Handler
Name: Astrid Caroline Jackson
Nickname: Jacks and sometimes AJ
Classification: Human
Gender: Female
Age & Birthday: 21 - Feb 23rd
Appearance: While Astrid knows that she's certainly not beautiful in a model sense, she knows that she's got her own brand of beauty and that most consider her to be on the cute side.. And you know? That's certainly good enough for her. She's not really tall, okay... She's rather short, barely reaching 5'1", but doesn't worry that everyone around her seems to tower over her. She has long white blond hair with streaks of pink that falls just past the middle of her back, which is straighter than straight. In fact, it's so straight that it hardly holds a curl, which of course is fine with Astrid, because she's not the type to spend hours getting ready for the day.
Her eyes and her smile are what seem to draw people into her. Both are bright; though seem to hold a slight mischievousness to them. She has large blue eyes that she constantly outlines quite liberally with eyeliner – the more the better in her mind. She has naturally pale skin, so she’s always lathering on sun screen if she even thinks she‘s going to be going out into the sun. If she forgets it, she normally burns to a nice shade of red that would put a cooked lobster to shame.
Attire: Astrid has a style all unto herself, or at least she thinks she does. Most would call her style glam-punk. She wears anything from t-shirts, short little skirts with fishnet stockings and clunky boots or heels to jeans, t-shirts and a pair of vans. She adores the color pink. She'd wear pink all the time if she could actually get away with it. She does know how to dress up when the need comes up. Which isn't often, and which Astrid thanks God for every day.
The Creation
Name: none
Power List: Empathy, Magic detection
Detailed Power:
Empathy~ Astrid has the ability to sense and feel the emotions and energies of others around her. She has a limited range, though it’s a bit larger than she’d like it to be –about a half mile around her. She really has to work to keep the mental block up so she isn’t overcome by too many conflicting emotions.
Magic Detection~ She has the ability to detect ‘magical’ auras in creatures/people she meets, even if it's only just a small amount of power. It's a feeling she gets (if you asked her what it feels like she'd say that it's almost like a tingling feeling she gets in her head) and she has yet to be wrong with it. She's not able to tell what kind of magic they posses, nor how powerful they might be. She has to actually be within a few feet of the person/creature in question to actually use this power.
The Potential
Alignment/Occupation: Unaffiliated
Weapons: none
Personality: First and foremost, Astrid is an entertainer. She loves to laugh and most of all she loves to talk. She can't stand awkward silences and goes out of her way to ensure they never happen around her. She loves a good joke - even if it's at her expense. She loves to talk, and voice her opinions - no matter how extreme they might be. She completely treasures her freedom of speech. Sometimes she gets in ‘minor’ disagreements by voicing her opinions, but it doesn't really bother her and it doesn't stop her from continuing on.
She’s pretty laid back about most things, and can keep a calm face on, even in a tough situation. She doesn't care much for drama or fights, simply because she can't be bothered - she has way more important things to be worried about. Most of the time, she tries to keep herself distanced from the troubles of her friends. if you want pity, she really isn't the gal to go to. She doesn't sugar-coat things, and she doesn't understand why anyone does. Got relationship problems? She'll tell you exactly what she thinks, no matter how bad it may be. If there's something that she hates, it's liars. Astrid is blunt. Very blunt. Needless to say, most of her friends are guys. She just gets along with them better and really doesn't have to worry about the petty drama she would if she were hanging around girls.
Skills: She’s an awesome musician, plain and simple. Having grown up in the whole band scene she was learning to play instruments almost as soon as she was able to walk. She can play the piano, and the guitar and is pretty decent on the drums – though she thinks she still has a lot to learn with them. She’s also pretty funny without trying to be. She’s a people person and for the most part is able to talk to a wide range of people. With the whole empathy thing, she’s quite good at figuring people around her out.
Strengths: Astrid is pretty good at getting those around her to smile and laugh. She’s able to keep a cool head under pressure (you try performing in front of large crowds without a cool head and see how long you last), and for the most part doesn’t let things bother her.
Weaknesses: She’s perhaps a bit too truthful. She doesn’t like liars and refuses to be one herself. She also has a hard time keeping her mental block up when she’s extremely tired, and so she actually has to have a full eight hours of sleep every night otherwise she’ll be feeling what everyone and their mother is feeling and that just gets to be way too much. Being extremely drunk also puts a hamper on her block, so she tends to stay away from serious drinking.
The Story
History: Astrid was actually born in a tour bus of all places. Her parents were both Punk Rockers and well, they were in the middle of a tour and waited too long to take her mother to a hospital. Of course afterwards, both mother and daughter were taken to the hospital where they were both pronounced to be in good health. Astrid grew up on the road and spent a lot of time back stage watching her parents perform their shows. Even from a young age she found that she loved life on the road. She loved the music, loved the atmosphere, loved the people and so she decided at the tender age of six that she was going to be a punk star just like her parents when she grew up.
Even though she lived life for the most part on the road, her parents made sure that she had proper schooling (well proper enough for a musician's daughter) and hired a tutor to travel along with them. Though she did relatively well in school, she wasn't outstanding and didn't really overly excel in anything. It didn't bother her because she didn't really think all that much of school anyway, she planned on being a star and who really needed school to be able to do that?
Her empathic powers emerged when she was ten, and she was actually able to keep her powers hidden from her parents and those around her. They just thought that she was a very intoned little girl and were actually quite proud that she was able to figure people out so quickly. Astrid was never embarrassed by her powers, but she didn't want people to think differently about her because of them, so she kept them to herself and has never worked up the nerve to tell her parents about them. Even though she knows they won’t love her any less, she still doesn’t feel the need to let them in on her secret.
It was hard at first for Astrid to control her powers as every emotion people around her just seemed to jump at her. She had to learn to concentrate on one person at a time and manage to keep others emotions at bay. It was basically a trial and error ordeal, and there were many headaches and sleepless nights trying to block out the emotions of the people around her. It took a year or so for her to truly get complete control over her power, but since she's gained control, she's hardly ever had serious issues with the power.
As she grew older, her parents realized she actually had talent when it came to singing and encouraged her to form Pink Millennium when she turned 17. Astrid formed the band herself, and it was when she was auditioning people when her ability to detect other people with powers decided to pop up. She was a bit nervous about this at first, but it actually helped her form the band. All the members in the band have some sort of what Astrid likes to call magic powers, but all have powers that they can hide from those around them.
Pink Millennium grew and grew in the Punk scene over a few years and it's only been recently that Astrid has been able to enjoy the growing fame. Astrid's band mates have recently been trying to talk her into checking out this government group that seems to have 'special' agents, claiming he saw some stuff on TV about this big red demon thing that works for the government. Astrid isn't so sure though, she really doesn't want to give up her career. On top of that, she feels like meeting with anyone from that agency might expose the band to the world and she's not sure she's ready for that sort of thing yet.
