The Handler
Name: Tabitha Whitman
Nickname: Tabby, Tech Chick
Classification: Human
Gender: Female
Age & Birthday: 25/November 3
Appearance: Tabby is tall for a girl, coming in at around 5'10. She's slender, but certainly is no super model weighing in at 145 lbs. Her skin tone is pale and when exposed to the sun for long periods of time will sunburn easily. Freckles dot her features prominently when she's been in the sun, when she hasn't been exposed to UV rays, her freckles are less prominent. Her hair is bright red, but in some lights appears brownish red because of the density of her hair. Her eyes are a light, almost turquoise blue. She possesses a tattoo on the under-flesh of her left wrist that is the Chinese character for Good Luck that she got the weekend after she graduated from high school. A scar from a tree-climbing accident when she was young graces the back of her neck, running up into and mottling her hairline.
Attire: Since Tabby is working in her shop (which she calls 'The Scrap Pile') during 'business' hours, she usually wears jeans and a t-shirt or tank top. When she might be welding or handling a soldering iron, she throws on a long-sleeved jean shirt on top of that. She usually wears hiking or steel-toed boots.
Off duty is pretty much the same: jeans, maybe sneakers, and a top that might show some skin. She only wears dresses for special occasions, not because she's a feminist or wants to show how tough she is...but because she's lazy and doesn't want to make the effort to dress up. Sometimes she likes to wear scarves or hats just to shake things up a bit.
Her night-time clothing is a pair of Eeyore pajama bottoms, a tank top, and fuzzy pink slippers.
The Creation
Name: Techie
Power List: N/A
Detailed Power: N/A
The Potential
Alignment/Occupation: BPRD Technology Specialist, Weapons Repair and Development, General Repair, IT Specialist, and Communication Specialist.
Weapons: Tabby fixes the weapons; she doesn't necessarily use them, but she does keep a Taurus Judge 4510 (basically a shotgun pistol) either in her desk drawer or in a holster on her belt during missions. She also has a soldiering iron handy in the shop and she is more than willing to gouge someone's eye out with it.
Personality: Tabby can be described as fun and obnoxious. She's usually in a chipper mood on an every day basis, but of course she can be serious when the situation calls for it. When she finds something funny, she laughs loud and hard. Sometimes she says wildly inappropriate things and really, really likes it. There are times when she has 'off' days, and usually she's very mellow and quiet on these days. When she's nervous or anxious, she usually bites her nails down to nubs, and under pressure and in the face of danger...she cusses like a sailor. She has described herself as 'one big spaz.'
Tabby doesn't like to be put under pressure or yelled at because then she'll yell right back. She dislikes disruptive people (even though she is one), especially since when she works she may be holding something that could kill her and anyone else in the room, or at least maim them. She likes the quiet, she likes working alone and independently, and she likes sleeping in late.
Skills: Tabby learned the basics of electronics from her father, an electrician, and then through government education, learned how to build and maintain technology, communications, even repair weapons. She is also the IT specialist, dealing with computers and repairs on just about everything except for cars. Years with the Bureau has also given her the chance to learn how to fix the unique weapons used by the agents. She also knows how to crotchet, make homemade comfort food, and can patch a pair of jeans or any other clothing for that matter like nobody's business.
Strengths: Tabby has an almost innate ability for repairing electronics, computers, and technology in general. Tabby has a very logical mindset when she's solving a problem, and she also is persistent in her goals.
Weaknesses: Tabby loses her cool and concentration when under pressure, when she finds a solution and she thinks it's right, she pursues it even if others think she's wrong. Tabby freezes up when she's terrified.
The Story
History: Tabitha Whitman was born to a regular family near Palmyra, New York. She had two older brothers, a younger brother, and a little sister. Her family owned a small farm that her father supplemented by working as an electrician. When Tabby's Suzy-Talks-Alot quit working one day, her father taught her the basic mechanics of the doll, and then when bigger things broke, he taught her how to fix those too. Tabby seemed to be born with the ability to fix anything technologically related, and she enjoyed it. Her dad started taking her to work with her and letting her tinker around with minor repairs as a learning process.
In high school, she joined Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (Presently Skills USA), a club focusing on vocational skills. In Tabby's Freshman year, she took state in Electronics technology, and placed bronze nationally. The next year she switched to computer programming, took state once more and then got silver in nationals. Her junior year she switched once more to Computer Maintenance technology, placed silver in state for that, and then her senior year she once more did computer programming, taking state, and eventually nationals. Her affluence with technology garnered attention from MIT and several computer software firms, but the government had also been keeping their eye on this young woman. They approached her and offered to pay for school in technology, computers, and electronics if she agreed to only work for them. She did.
Tabby was enrolled in an intense program with maybe half a dozen others, exposed to top secret technology and software. By the time she was twenty, Tabby could fix almost any sophisticated form of technology. It was then that the six in her group were administered a test to determine where they would end up in the honeycomb of the government. After taking the test that measured their overall ability, ingenuity, knowledge, and ability to act under stress. The six were split up, not told exactly what they were heading for, but Tabby was very intrigued when her courses suddenly included the art of being a gunsmith. The program was very intense, and in her two and a half years of learning the craftsmanship, she became able enough to at least be able to make small handguns. When she was twenty-two, her assignment finally came and it was off to New Jersey to work for something that was only referred to as the BPRD.
Upon arrival, Tabby learned about the fantastic truths the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense held and she got to be one of the people who helped the good guys fight the bad guys. She started out with routine maintenance like doing wiring, fixing light fixtures, et cetera, but then moved onto things like weapons repair and the communications systems in anticipation for the retirement of the current tech. After a year, the tech had taught her how to take care of Hellboy's Samaritan and the other fantastic weapons, and completed her training so that she could make special weapons when the time came. Once the tech retired, she was the top technological specialist at the Bureau and given the chance to come along on missions as a stand-by, just in case any electronic, weapons, or technical problems arose. Tabby has settled into her job and has christened her shop, 'The Scrap Pile.'
