Moving him to this account...
Name: Typhon Coluber
Nickname: Ty, Tank, Ugly
Classification: Human
Gender: Male
Age & Birthday:32 years, May, 8th
Appearance: Typhon is huge. At 7’ even and 380 lbs, he gives the impression of a mountain that has suddenly become mobile. He has wide shoulders, solid muscles, and dark, almost black eyes under thick black eyebrows. His hair is short, black and wild despite his best attempts at keeping it tidy. He keeps himself clean shaven, since any facial hair would be patchy due to the numerous scars.
Typhon is not a pretty man… quite the opposite in fact. Every inch, (yes, EVERY inch) of his body is covered by a collection of bizarre, arcane-looking tattoos in black and red ink. The tattoos cover a wide range of styles from tribal African to Indian to Asian, but many of the tattoos contain a reoccurring theme of a serpent biting it’s own tail… the ouroboros serpent, symbolizing eternity, death & rebirth, and the infinite. On top of the tattoos are a network of criss-crossing scars which are nearly as abundant as the tattoos. Some are raw and red, some silvery with age.
To top his already shocking appearance, he wears a black eye patch over his left eye to hide an oddity. A white ouroboros serpent appears in the iris of his left eye, circling the pupil. He covers that eye for two reasons, first so as not to startle those who see it (as though he himself weren’t startling enough) and second, to control the ability the serpent seems to give him.
Attire: Typhon tends to wear simple clothes in black, with few colors because finding clothes in his size is hard enough without adding color to the equation. When at work, he wears tailored black suits, with a black dress shirt. When off-duty, he favors black t-shirts with black jeans. His favorite article of clothing is an impressive black duster/trench-coat which he has modified with a plethora of pockets to keep tools, gadgets, etc in. He likes to be prepared.
Name: Typhon or Agent Coluber
Power List:Farsight, Channel
Detailed Power:
Farsight: The ouroboros serpent in Typhon’s left eye seems to give him the ability to see events or locations that are some distance from him. It does not seem to take into account walls, or solid objects that might hinder ordinary sight. Currently the maximum distance he can see is 25 miles from himself. He cannot see past or future events… only what is currently taking place. He cannot hear anything happening at the place he is viewing… only silently witness. He does not truly control this ability, but seems to be able to focus on a person or place he wishes to see… and then sees it when he lifts the eye-patch. Or at least attempts to see it… the eye seems to have a mind of its own and doesn’t always show him what he wants to see. It almost seems to take a delight in frustrating him. Magical wards can thwart his sight, but nothing mundane. Since Typhon does not have control over this power the more he uses it the greater the strain, winding up giving him a blinding headache or even rendering him unconscious. If the eye is not covered and he is not focused on using it, it will randomly show him places or events, which is disconcerting to him. In fact, Typhon does not like to use this ability at all… he hides it when possible, and avoids using it unless there is no other choice.
Channel: Because of the tattoos, most of which are truly arcane symbols from a myriad of cultures, Typhon can be used as a channel for mages. In effect, the energy for the mage is channeled through him doubling, tripling, or sometimes even quadrupling the energy as it “exits” him to the mage. He increases their power… making their attacks more potent, or giving them longer staying power. Typhon has no control over this ability at all, nor can he himself make use of this “talent” as he is not a mage, nor interested in being one. He is entirely passive in the use of this ability. It is painful to Typhon to be used in this way, ranging from mildly painful to excruciating depending on how much energy is being channeled and whether it’s being merely doubled… or pushed further. Interestingly, a side effect of his ability seems to be a sort of buffering effect for the mage, protecting them from some of the effects of over-taxing their own abilities. Instead, Typhon suffers the effects in their place.
Alignment/Occupation: FBI agent, hoping to transfer to BPRD
Weapons: He tends to favors guns of all varieties, and is a crack shot, however he also carries an old-fashioned mace for close-combat. He keeps the mace on a belt specially made for it, and partially hidden under his trench coat.
Personality: Typhon must have been the origin of the cliché 'strong and silent type'. He is a very large man, and not at all pretty, and not social. It’s not that he’s shy or afraid of social situations, but eloquence is not his strong suit. He cannot seem to find the words he needs to explain himself, so he avoids speaking all together or speaks very minimally, even sometimes monosyllabically. He is very serious by nature, and thoughtful, so he rarely smiles. Which unfortunately, tends to make many people uneasy or even outright terrified of him, since he looks like he can take on a tank bare-handed and win… and by the scars, looks like he’s done so. This also hinders his social life to the point where he’s abandoned all attempts at it. He tends to be a little too serious, taking you literally even when you’re being sarcastic or joking. He is slower of thought than some, but very thorough in exploring every aspect of a situation or puzzle. This means he is a great planner and quite practical. He tends to be very deliberate in his actions as well, because of his large size. He is, on occasion, even clumsy… misjudging his strength or size.
Typhon, since he is often left alone, occupies himself with meditation or studying and practicing martial arts. He is attempting to reach grace and control through his studies, since he carries with him an abiding fear of hurting anyone smaller than him… which is most everyone. Meditation has led him to be a very focused individual, and like an avalanche, he bears down on his goal with an inexorable determination, and absolutely unstoppable intent. This leads him to be rather single-minded on occasion, and in dire need of someone to thump him upside the head to change course or perhaps abandon/change the previous goal. He also is remarkably calm, accepting some very odd views, behaviors, and situations with very little, if any, alarm.
Strangely, for all his size and capacity for violence, Typhon is a rather gentle, even sensitive individual. He is capable of a deep well of loyalty toward his friends, and is fierce in defending them… yet he can be utterly dominated by that very same person he’s defending. He will go out of his way to avoid conflict, which is not to say that he forgives the offending party… it only means he doesn’t wish to hurt them. He is patient with even the most extreme personalities, and slow to take offense, but once roused to ire is slow to be soothed again.
He rarely speaks of himself, his past, or even his likes or dislikes. He doesn’t intend to be mysterious… he simply does not think he is of interest to someone else. When questioned, if he does not wish to answer, he will simply give the questioner a steady look until the person is intimidated to the point of fleeing, or until they realize he has no intention of answering and abandon the question. To be fair, he also does not pry into the pasts or personal affairs of those around him unless he feels it is needed for that person’s health. He also does not judge a person when he hears of questionable pasts or controversial interests.
Solid, loyal, patient, STRONG and deliberate are words used to best describe him.
Skills: Meditation, martial arts (specifically Taekwondo, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu... he is moderately proficient in each though not quite master level), hand-to-hand combat, sharp-shooting
Strengths: Physically, he is quite strong though not out of proportion… he is, after all, merely human. He is a deliberate and thorough thinker, an excellent planner, and quite steady and calm in unsettling circumstances.
Weaknesses: Slower of thought, so slower to adapt or change his attack or his course. Fearful of hurting others, so sometimes too slow to attack at all. Inept and awkward in social situations… lacking even the most basic of skills for small talk. A little TOO serious, missing jokes and clever repartee. Take him out of a purely martial situation and he tends to flounder. Sometimes TOO accepting of other people’s questionable actions or views.
History: Typhon's family consisted of himself, his mother, and his father. His parents, appalled with the world's state, decided what was lacking was a strong faith, and set about creating their own religion. They believed in this created religion with manic fanaticism, truly believing they were the prophets chosen by God to bring faith to the masses, and salvation to the world. They were able to gather quite a following, and celebrated an odd mass that centered around taming serpents. Many of their rituals also included nude displays, and often strange, perverse orgiastic rites. They used Typhon’s Farsight ability to gain information that they used to further their finances… often times in direct opposition to the law.
They believed their son was more than merely a prophet, but had the potential to be a vessel of the “God spirit”. In order to facilitate the possession by the God spirit, they tattooed his entire body with strange tattoos in black and red ink. They also gathered mystics of many different kinds to teach their son the arts of deep meditation, self-hypnosis, trance-state, and many other altered mental state techniques. Included in these teachings were martial arts training, as Typhon's parents believed the berserker state some warriors achieved could also open their son to the God spirit. When these things did not engender the desired outcome, they began beating their son with whips, and burning him in order to produce an out-of-body state due to pain. This was successful in creating the out-of-body state, but did not fill Typhon with the God spirit. Furious at this blasphemy (in their eyes) his parents disowned him and cast him out of their home.
Typhon struggled to finish school and support himself, fighting the ostracizing that his tattoos and fanatic parents had engendered. He managed to put himself through college, and entered the FBI training. Finishing near the top of his class, he joined the FBI. Strangely enough, Typhon’s judgment as to right and wrong was not distorted by his parent’s odd views… though he did gain some understanding of the more extreme views in society that lead to success in cases, and a tolerance for questionable behavior that occasionally gets him into trouble.
Also surprising, he holds no rancor toward his parents, knowing they truly believed they were doing their best for him. He, however, views religion with understandable cynicism and suspicion. He continued to study meditation and martial arts, though this time to gain focus and grace, to avoid being overly clumsy (and therefore destructive) due to his size.
Somehow, word of his more remarkable abilities (his eye and channeling abilities) filtered through key people in the FBI and he was approached to join the BPRD.
