The Handler
Name: Smitt, Ryan, Jonathan
Nickname: Jon
Classification: Human
Gender: Male
Age & Birthday: December 18, 1987
Appearance: Jon is among the shorter of the human race. He stands at a height of 5’2 and weighs around 183 lbs. His physique is quite muscular to say the least. Though he might be rather short, he is quite strong. His eyes are a piercing green that some say seem to shine like that of an emerald. His hair is straight and light brown and it reaches down just passed his shoulders. He often keeps it unkempt and uncombed, but not unwashed. He has a rather small torso and very long legs. His feet are quite large for his size. He has long, slender fingers that lead up to his muscular hands. His arms reach down from his waist up to his broad shoulders. His jaw has a masculine cut to it as it rounds off and leads up to his thin cheekbones. His nose is rather small compared to that of many others. His eyes are slanted somewhat noticeably downward and are a bit closer together than others. His lips are quite thin and his teeth are perfectly white and straight, though he has a bit of an overbite. He often keeps his beard trimmed so it resembles somewhat of a 5 o’clock shadow look.
Attire: When he’s abroad, Jon likes to keep to a sort of a stealthy look. He wears dark black pants made out of a thin cloth that fit him just perfectly. Black shoes can be found tightly enclosing Jon’s feet, designed perfectly for walking and/or running as silently as possible. He wears a long sleeve black cloth shirt and soft black gloves. Around his shoulder, Jon keeps a black strap that holsters his pistol to his waist and carries an extra 5 magazines. Around his waist, a similar black strap can be found holstering a small black retractable combat knife. On top of his shirt, covering his straps, Jon wears a black cloth zip-up hoodie.
At home, or wherever he is currently staying, Jon wears the same black shoes, being that they are the only pair of shoes he owns. He often wears blue jeans that fit him just perfectly. He often wears different color T-shirts, depending on his mood. The same two black straps can be found around his shoulder and waist, holstering his combat knife, pistol and magazines. He wears different color zip-up hoodies, depending on his mood.
Regardless of whether he’s at home or abroad, Jon always wears a few accessories. A black digital wristwatch is always strapped around his left wrist, and always set in military time because he feels it’s “more efficient”. A thin silver necklace always drapes itself upon his chest underneath his shirt, given to him by his grandmother on his 12th birthday.
The Creation
Name: Darkstalker
Power List: 1)Complete Light Absorption
2) Increased Night Vision
3) Light Discharge
Detailed Power: 1) At any given moment, Jon can absorb all the light in a given area and create a block in a diameter of 50 feet around his person that prevents any more light from entering said area. Any person and or object can enter and/or leave the area at will. The complete absorption of all light in a given area varies depending on the quantity of light in the area surrounding him. If Jon is outside in an open field, it takes at least 5 times as long to absorb all the light and create the block as it would if he were in a room with no windows and a few light fixtures. This power requires his complete concentration and any object that hits him directly requires him to start again, though he retains the light already absorbed. The longest time it has taken Jon to absorb light at his maximum radius was around 25 seconds. However, Jon can adjust the size of the block to decrease the time required to a minimum of a 10 foot diameter, though it is much less effective. The light that Jon absorbs is stored inside his cellular structure. A specific amount of light is stored in each cell throughout his body and remains there until it is physically impossible for Jon to absorb any more. If Jon does absorb more light than his body can physically handle, it is immediately and forcibly discharged. Anyone within a radius of 10 feet around Jon is immediately blinded for no less than a minute and no more than 20 minutes depending on how close they are to Jon. This discharge causes all of the light in his body to rapidly leave his cells uncontrollably and causes a variety of side effects. After this discharge, Jon is knocked unconscious for a period of no less than 5 minutes and, unless he is woken up, remains unconscious for a period of no more than one hour. For a 6 hour period after the discharge, Jon experiences minor pains throughout his entire body and is unable to absorb any more light.
2) Jon has night vision that becomes immediately active once it becomes too dark for him to see normally. A portion of the light inside his body is moved to his eyes and immediately multiplied to allow him to see where even no light is present. If Jon has no light stored inside his body, he is unable to use his night vision.
3) In a similar fashion to the discharge created when Jon absorbs more light that he can store, Jon can discharge the light inside his body with control. Jon can discharge whatever amount of light he feels necessary with a maximum of all of the light currently stored in his body. He can discharge this light in two ways: Through his entire body or channeled through one of his hands. When he discharges the light through his entire body, he releases however much light he feels is adequate in a 10 foot radius around him. Anyone within this 10 foot radius is blinded for no less than a full minute and no more than 5 minutes depending on how close they are to Jon and how much light he discharges. When he discharges the light through his hand, he creates a concentrated blast of energy that reaches a length of 3 feet in front of him. This concentrated light creates a copious amount of heat that can cause burns depending on how close the person is to Jon. Depending on whether Jon discharges the light at a person’s eyes or body, the target of this discharge can become blinded for a period of no less than 1 minute to a period of no more than 10 minutes. The duration of blindness and severity of the burns also depends on the amount of light Jon discharges.
The Potential
Alignment/Occupation: Nuada’s Regiment
Weapons: Jon carries a 1” black combat knife holstered around his waist. Close to this knife, Jon holsters an all black .22 Walther P22 and 5 magazines.
Personality: Jon is a very high spirited person. He often thinks of all the positives of any situation rather than the negatives. However, sometimes this causes him to completely overlook consequences and act upon ideas that cause more problems than they are worth. He’s very talkative and often dominates any conversation he is in. This could be partly because of his somewhat loud voice, but he believes it’s because he was rarely allowed to speak in his house. At times, Jon talks to himself when he is trying to work things out or is merely lost in thought. When he does this, he often does it loudly and occasionally within a group of people. This developed in his early years and made it difficult to make friends, though he did anyway. Jon has a very persistent nature. He never gives up on anything regardless of the odds, how much he’s tried, or how hard it will be. In this way, he never leaves a task unfinished and is very reliable. Jon fears one thing more than anything else: dissappointment. He always keeps his hopes up and fears that he will be let down. Jon is also quite impatient. He is unable to stand around doing nothing for long periods of time and has a hard time waiting for other people to catch up. He also has an addiction to gum. He always carries a pack around with him and you can almost never catch him without a piece of gum in his mouth.
Skills: Jon learned several languages during his early years and later in high school. He can speak Spanish, French and Italian and is quite understanding of Latin. He is also rather good at solving puzzles of any kind.
Strengths: Jon is rather strong and is able to lift things that many others cannot. He is rather accurate with guns, but prefers to shoot quickly. He is quite fast, being that his has rather long legs. He is also rather smart, and graduated at the top of his class with a 4.0 grade point average.
Weaknesses: Jon is impatient. He has a hard time waiting for other people to catch up to him. He is also rather blunt to the point that some would say he’s unkind. Because of this, he often has a hard time getting people to like him. He can also be rather uncoordinated at times and tends to trip over his own two feet.
The Story
History: Jon was born in a hospital in Central Dupage at 3 pm. He was among the larger of the children around him, both taller and heavier than any of the other infants in the hospital. He was one of 4 children. He had two twin brothers, both 22 months older than him, and a sister who was already 6 years old. Growing up, Jon was often quiet. He was always interrupted by his siblings. His two twin brothers often would physically beat him at least 3 times a week, but no more than an older brother would beat up his younger sibling. His sister was quite isolated from him. He never really got to know her. She was often confined to her room or out with friends through much of his life. He felt like he wanted to know her, but she was never around. During his early years, Jon often confided in a small stuffed bear that his sister had given him for his 2nd birthday. He and his two brothers played with several stuffed animals during the first 8 or so years of his life, but his brothers grew out of them. He always felt like he was the odd member of the family and never really fit in. He played many video games and grew up to be a sort of a nerd.
Jon went to school like any other person. He was always blunt and somewhat unfriendly, so not many of the other children liked him. After he came to 2nd grade and began learning his simple mathematics and reading, he excelled greatly. He was moved up to the fourth grade because of his knowledge. The children in his class often thought him to be condescending when he spoke even though he was only trying to help. Because of this, he was avoided until middle school. In middle school, Jon gained many friends. He was the “smart one” in all of the classes and never got less than a 95% on anything. However, like many other children, Jon had to deal with a bully of his own. Whether the child locked Jon in a locker or threw him in a garbage can and rolled him down the stairs, he always went out of his way to attempt to make Jon miserable. Jon didn’t believe in “squealing” as some would call it. Every time he was found in his locker or covered in garbage, he always said, “I dunno who did it. I never met him before.” However, Jon knew exactly who he was. At one point, he had almost succeeded at making Jon miserable. However, when Jon reached the breaking point, he didn’t get depressed, he didn’t just sit there and take it. He immediately turned and punched the child in the face as hard as he could. Needless to say, the child fell to the ground bleeding, his two friends went running off in fear, and a teacher walked up just as Jon had punched him. Jon received a two day OSS for punching the child in the face, though everyone knew he deserved it. After that day, no one messed with Jon ever again.
During the first few years of his life, Jon’s parents got along great. One time he accidentally walked in on them while they were... indecent. He had walked in to ask if his mother would make him eggs. She told him she would and they never spoke of it again. However, when Jon was around 10, his father had lost his job after a liquidation of the company. His parent’s relationship slowly began to decay. He noticed they began fighting more and more. His mother had to get a job for an insurance company and began working from 6am to 9pm Monday through Friday. His father would stay at home and slowly became overweight. He began to enjoy the time that he had after school because as soon as his mother got home, sure enough, his parents started arguing.
Jon began to despise his parents, at least subconsciously. His father was lazy and never did anything, and his mother didn’t know how NOT to yell. Soon enough, his parents had declared bankruptcy and they moved from their house into a small apartment. Jon slowly became more and more enraged by his parents. Soon enough, this anger toward his parents manifested itself in small bursts of rage at anything that happened to cause the slightest bit of discontent. He began attacking inanimate objects with his fists at a whim. Soon enough, he found himself getting angry at nothing. At this point, Jon was a freshman in high school.
High school was not the best of times for Jon. He found a way to make himself “invisible” almost to the point where the people who knew him in middle school forgot he even existed. It remained this way until his junior year, after he moved out of the apartment. He made a small group of friends that he regularly hung out with. He felt content with the small amount of people he hung out with, though he still wanted to be somewhat accepted by the rest of his social group. It was at this point that Jon’s powers began to manifest. One day, he was doing his homework like any other, and he found himself more concentrated than usual. Suddenly, the lights began to dim. Soon enough, it was almost pitch black. Suddenly, everything began to become more visible. Jon could tell that it was completely pitch black but was still able to see. He questioned how this was possible and soon enough, after it happened enough times, he came to the conclusion that he was the one creating this darkness.
On his free time, when he wasn’t hanging out with friends or doing his homework, Jon was honing his powers alone in the cornfield adjacent to his house. Soon enough, he was able to use it at will. At one point, however, he felt he wanted to push his limits. He absorbed so much light that he felt he was going to explode, but he kept going. A few moments later, he did explode. The light inside his body discharged through his skin very painfully. Next thing Jon knew, he woke up in the cornfield an hour and a half later. A few weeks later, Jon learned that he could discharge the light at will. He also learned that he HAD to discharge the light if he wanted to avoid that situation.
Once Jon began to gain more knowledge and control over his powers, the existence of other creatures and people that he thought to be “fairy tales” became more and more apparent. Soon enough, he felt that he was better than those without powers. He felt “immortal” so to speak. When Jon turned 19, he moved out of his parent’s house. He went to college and graduated with high honors. Nothing really important happened during this time. Soon, he learned of Nuada and his plans. He felt that he never really had fit in with his fellow humans and hoped that he would fit in with something of a more “mythical” nature. He set off in hopes of being accepted by the elves. He traveled for at least 3 years, slowly gaining bits and pieces of information regarding Prince Nuada and his people. Soon enough, he heard word of a forest of elves. He traveled in search of this forest and soon found it. Inside, he could feel the presence of something mystic. As expected, he was shunned and ignored by the elves at first. He found nothing. At this juncture, he decided to stay the night in the woods. So he did. Soon enough, he found himself staying in the woods for months, hunting to survive. He figured that if he stayed long enough, perhaps they would accept him. They did not. At this point, he decided he would attempt to show them his powers. If they were watching, perhaps they would find him useful, or so he hoped. He began to practice for hours on end, absorbing and discharging light.
Soon enough, he became extremely exhausted, but continued to use his powers. For two days straight Jon did nothing but absorb and discharge light. Finally, at the end of the second day, he had become far too exhausted to continue and passed out on the cold ground of the forest. He awoke around a day and a half later to find himself surrounded by elves. He told them that he was here to support Nuada and he only meant to help. After a few minutes of explaining his cause, the elves took him to their home.
