The Handler
Name: Princess Nuala.
Nickname:
Classification: Elf.
Gender: Female.
Age & Birthday: The Princess is immortal – therefore, ageless.
A day on the Elven calendar is different than that on the human calendar – but I would estimate sometime in April.
Appearance: Being a twin, Nuala resembles her brother to an extreme. The same white hair, the same pale skin, the same markings – everything. There are subtle differences, though, nothing too extreme, but enough to tell the two apart. Nuala’s eyes, for instance, while they are golden in color like her brothers – are wider, and somewhat brighter. She is also about a foot shorter than he is, and her face is a bit rounder – full cheeks and light colored lips, as her brother’s are dark. She is slender, very petite, and while she is taller compared to most humans, she is on the short side for an Elf.
Just like her brother, Nuala has many scars. The most prominant and obvious of those are those on her face - gained from a right of passage that most male Elves had to go through. Unfortunately, because of their bond, when Nuada went through the right of passafe, she gained the same scars. The lines across her nose, some on her head, hidden by her hair, and some hidden by clothes on her body. As far as non-ceremonial scars go - all those that her brother gained in battle, she shares as well. There are quite a few of them, and she tries to hide them as much as she can.
Attire: As a Princess, Nuala wears extravagant, detailed, and regal gowns and dresses. Her favorite color is blue, and you will most likely find her in something of the various shades of that color – but she is also partial to gold, white, red and black. Since coming to the B.P.R.D., she has seen a variety of clothing on the various employees – and has, on occasion, tried on ‘human’ clothes, but.. They were much too revealing for her liking. She is sticking with her gowns and the like for now, but perhaps sometime she will get used to the humans idea of fashion.
The Creation
Name: Nuala.
Power List:
[x]Telepathy
[x]Magical abilities (She is an Elf, you know.)
[x]The bond with her brother.
Detailed Power: Her telepathy has grown in power since she has come to the BPRD – it used to be very slight, only through touch, that she could tap into a person’s mind. The only time it was stronger was through her brother, the two of them can read each other’s thoughts and feelings (physical and emotional) to the extreme. But now, she has learned a bit more control over it, and has managed to reach over a distance of a small room to another person and read their mind from there. It is slightly powered by her emotions and how she feels for the person whom she is connecting to – for example, with a certain fishman… It is much stronger.
Being an elf, she does have the knowledge and abilities to cast spells – nothing too extreme – but she knows basics healing, a bit of element control, etc. She prefers the lighter elements - air and water - though she does have a fondness for earth, mainly plants. She does have an uncanny ability to make plants grow - a 'green thumb' if you will. She tends to stay away from the element of fire though... She does not like things that destroy. She hardly uses such powers in a large quantity,, as it does require a lot of energy, and most of the time, she does not need it. Most every Elf knows such things, as it is taught to them when they are younger – and some choose to center their life around it, but Nuala did not, and therefore, she is a beginner in such things.
Finally, the bond with her brother might not seem as a real ‘power’, but it is a supernatural ability, that is for sure. From their birth, the two had shared a connection – and no one except them can now how far it runs. They hardly understand it to its fullest, but what they do know is that it allows them to feel each others emotions, pain, and read each others thoughts – sometimes without even meaning for it to happen. This does give Nuada the slightest bit of control over his sister, but she tries to keep him out of her mind as much as she can.
The Potential
Alignment/Occupation: BPRD.
Weapons: She has a dagger hidden in her robes at all times, but that’s about it. Nuala isn’t a big fan of fighting or violence.
Personality: Nuala is the perfect opposite of her brother. He is dark, she is light – it is as simple as that. She believes that there can be a peace between their people, and the humans, that can be reached without violence or war – while her brother believes the exact opposite. Nuala is sweet and caring, and will do anything for the ones she loves – her brother, on the other hand, will do anything for himself and his people, no matter what the consequences.
Nuala sees good and beauty in everything – whether it be a monster, a person, anything – she will always believe that there is some good in everyone, even her brother, no matter what he does. She is easily befriended, and since coming to the B.P.R.D., has found love with the one called Abraham Sapien. They are almost exactly alike in personality, she enjoys reading with him in the library, they could be in there for hours reading poetry back and forth to one another.
Likes:
While she lived her life in Bethmoora, she did have various suitors and the like coming to her to ask her hand in marriage - but she never took a liking to any of them. However, since coming to the Bureau, she has devloped affections for Abraham Sapien - and enjoys spending her time with him the most, which she does. Now, most people would thing affections for a fishman are rather disturbing and weird - but Nuala thinks he's as lovely an handsome as any man - human, elf, or fish. The Princess finds and loves beauty in everything - be it a person, nature, or work of art. As far as art goes, she prefers books - mainly poetry, both Elven and human alike.
Last, but not least, she loves her family like nothing else. She loves her parents the way any daughter would, and even if they have gone from this world (her father, of course, most recently and by horrible circumstances), she still does love them. Now, her brother... As they are twins, and because of the bond they share, he is like a piece of her - the two of them are opposite sides of the same coin. When they were younger, the two were best friends, until the tensions of the war forced them to go their seperate ways. Now, while she does resent his actions... She still loves him.
Dislikes:
Nuala always had a peaceful nature, even when she was younger, if her brother picked a fight with another (he did that quite a lot), she would act as a mediator. Because of that disposition, she dislikes anything that has to do with violence or war - even if there is a legitimate reason behind it. She believes that there are other ways things can be solved. Because of her personal experience with the war between the humans and the mythical beings, she also dislikes her brother's action, and involvement in violence and war. Even though she wants nothing more than to be with her brother, forgive what he has done, and return to live in Bethmoora - she cannot support his actions, if he means to harm (actually, massacre) the human race.
Fears:
If your brother killed more than a thousand people - in war, or for his own gain - you would fear him as well. She knows that he is good at heart, and there is a reason behind what he does, she hates it, and fears him. He used to be her closest friend, but after all that has happened... She is afraid that one day, he might attack the Bureau, and force her to come back with him to Bethmoora - or worse, because of his jealousy and anger... Kill Abraham. One of her worst fears is losing him, the only man (fish) that she has ever held romantic feelings for, in the majority of her life.
If she needed to, she would fight for his life - but unfortunately, she is not a skilled fighter. She fears being caught in a situation that requires physical fighting - as she has no experience with weapons, or even hand-to-hand combat. While her brother has trained vigoursly in such things, and when he does, she does feel the physical pains of such harsh physical training, she does not apply it. She prefers mental fighting (a battle of wits) to physical.
Skills: Again, she has a bit of experience in magic, and she can do more than a few spells when she needs to. Also, she has taken a liking for the human dance of ballet, and is attempting to learn it. Now that she is at the Bureau, she also sort of works as a 'mediator', people know to come to her with their problems - even if she hardly knows them. She gives good advice, and her kind nature makes people heed her words.
Strengths:
Her mental abilities - both in knowledge and emotions - are strong. She can sooth, calm, and encourage people like no other – she is the master of making you feel better if you’re down. She is also a very good negotiator. As far as knowledge goes, she could probably give you a lecture on the history of the Elves, famous Elven poets and artists - and now, thanks to Abraham - she is slowly becoming versed in human authors, musicans, and the like.
Her telepathy – since she has come to the B.P.R.D. she has fine-tuned it, and can control it even better than she could before. It can range from simple reading a person's thoughts and seeing into their memories, to (most recently) being able to implant thoughts into the mind's of others. This is a very new ability though, and she sometimes does it when she does not even mean to.
Weaknesses:
Her biggest weakness is her brother; she always has and always will feel a pull to him, and they will always be bonded together like no other. This does give him a hold over her, he can implant thoughts in her mind, and she can feel his emotions and physical pain... It is very hard to deal with somtimes. Also, being as compassionate as she is,It’s hard for her to say no to someone. She will feel guilty if she denies someone something – she always tries to be as nice as she can. Finally, If there ever comes a place where she has to defend herself, in a fight or other wise, it will be hard for her.
The Story
History: Since they were born, Nuala and her twin brother Nuada have been closer than any other brother and sister, twins or otherwise. They have always held a special bond that allows both of them to feel whatever the other is feeling. When they were younger, they were inseparable, and stayed that way up until the war with the humans – that was the only thing that came between this brother and sister.
Nuala despised the war, and wished they could just have peace with the humans – but Nuada was the warrior, and he lead the troops into battle countless times, and always tried to make his sister understand that the only way to get the humans to stop killing their forests and their people was for them to be destroyed.
When the Master Goblin blacksmith came with the request to build the Golden Army, Prince Nuada convinced their father to approve of it, while Nuala tried to tell her father that a negotiation must be at least attempted. Unfortunately, her brother held more power over her father than she did – and the Golden Army was created.
The destruction of the humans came fast, as soon as the Golden Army was put into battle, and King Balor saw the wrong of his ways – and thus, struck up a truce with the humans. Nuada was not pleased, and went into self-imposed exile. Nuala felt like a part of her had gone when her brother left, and for the years that he was gone, tried to stay strong for her father’s sake.
When he returned from exile, Nuala could not be happier – until she realized what exactly he had returned for. He killed their father for the second piece of the crown to control the Golden Army, and before he could gain the third, Nuala fled.
It was in the Troll Market that Abe crosses paths with Nuala while she was looking for the map to where the Golden Army rests, quickly falls in love with her before they were attacked by Nuada's lackey, Mr. Wink. After a battle with a Forest God, Nuala is taken back to the B.P.R.D., where she and Abe have their first true conversation with each other – starting with a poem by the one known as Tennyson. Nuala quickly felt an affection for Abraham – but her happiness was short lived.
Her brother used their bond to find the B.P.R.D., and kidnapped her – while mortally wounding Hellboy – and bringing her to the place where the Golden Army rested. Thankfully, she had hidden the final piece to the crown in the book of the poem that she had read before in the hopes that Abraham would find it, and her brother would not have control over the Golden Army.
In the end, Hellboy, Abraham, Johann and Liz came to stop Nuada – Abraham traded the piece of the crown for Nuala’s life – but Nuada did not keep his promise, and thus, brought the Golden Army back into action, and ordered them to kill the B.P.R.D. gang. A battle ensued – but then, Hellboy challenged Nuada for the right to control the Golden Army.
The fight between them was an intense one, but Hellboy defeated Nuada – but did not kill him, for Abe, because he knew it would kill Nuala as well. When Nuada surrendered, Nuala went back to the B.P.R.D. with Abe, much to her brother’s dismay. She could feel the betrayal, anger, and sadness from her brother when she had done so, but she was not going to stay with him after what he did .
Now she lives at the B.P.R.D. with Abraham and the lot, trying to learn how to live without her brother, and with the humans. It has been a hard transition for her, but with Abraham’s help, it is slowly becoming easier.
