Hello everyone, it is a pleasure to meet you all. I go by Laena here, I don't like to give out my real name online until I know people, but I may mention it in conversation eventually.
I am currently age 24, in that time I have done work as a teaching assistant and charity fundraiser, although the actual work done in both jobs is a bit less impressive than the titles suggest. Currently I am training to teach a course called Expert Patient, designed to help people with disabilities learn to manage them. Yes, I like to do public service, but I had to abandon a career in the police and army because I plan on changing countries in the future.
I am a Brit, sometimes called a Stubborn Brit, planning to move to the US once I have finished university and am in a position to have a viable career there.
I have roleplayed online for 5 years, and on tabletop for 8 years before that. I got into writing when I tried writing a bio for one of my old characters, who ended up being a complete Mary Sue but the character served their purpose. I broadened my horizons and tried out a fantasy site which fell apart after a few months, then another which is still alive today but after a few years stopped being fun to play (too much drama), I
A character I have more-or-less written but I just need to adapt to the site is a corrupt vampiress infernalist working on the temptress/corruptor theme and the demonic connections in much of the mythology behind both vampirism and witchcraft.
For the record, I LOVE using original mythology in writing, I love using dark themes, evoking moods and feels, and the pattern of consistency that so much of mythology has (and most of Hollywood hasn't). The character I am creating now is pretty heavily based on old occult folklore so it will be fun to use some of that.
By the way, when doing my research here, I noticed I need to talk to the admins before picking powers related to mind control or power bestowal. What I have in mind is much more subtle and low-key variations (power of suggestion and of enchanting items) that could easily fall under the heading of 'magic' but I thought it was worth mentioning in advance.
Anyway, pleased to meet you and I hope my coming here is fun for all concerned.
