THE HANDLER
NAME: Dunedin (no known last name)
NICKNAME: Dune
CLASSIFICATION: Human
GENDER: Male
AGE & BIRTHDAY: Unsure, about 18
APPEARANCE: Lean with a swimmer’s build, Dunedin’s body is ever so subtly muscular. He is tall and lean with an almost feminine looking without the masculine square shape to his upper body. Dune’s eyes are ice blue and as cold as winter, matching his pale-white skin and cold. Heavy, dark eye-make up tops off his look, giving him a very angry, unapproachable air,
Dune’s hair is jet black with blue undertones, giving his hair an ethereal iridescence when hit with direct sunlight... much like the feathers of a raven. His hairstyle is a stereotypical emo cut with his bangs swooping over one eye and the back done up in a spike.
ATTIRE: Dune has a closet full of various shades of black. His
jackets are long, his sleeves are fluttery and airy, and his black denim jeans
as tight as they can be without making his eyes pop out of his head. He enjoys
wearing rings of every size, stone, and metal... and is quite proud of his
collection. He is one to sport necklaces, bracelets, and earrings as well and
even has a platinum ring in his right eyebrow. He also wears black nail-polish
on his finger and toenails at all times.

THE CREATION
NAME: Shade
POWER LIST:
Astral Projection
DETAILED POWER:
Dunedin has the uncanny ability to extend his soul past the boundaries of his body in what looks like thick, tangible darkness. This darkness does what Dunedin wills. A few examples: It can slide under doors and unlock it from the other side, it can be used as a shield and stop a hail of bullets from hitting him or whomever he is protecting, it can also wrap itself around people and asphyxiate them until they fall unconscious or even die. He can only extend his soul fifty feet from him, though... and more than that causes great stress to his body, and usually causes him to faint. in fact, any prolonged use of his "soul-self" causes much the same reaction. Also, if his power is used past his body’s limitations, Dunedin will fall into a coma.
Because the darkness is a physical manifestation of Dunedin's soul in the physical world, it is almost invulnerable. But, when being used, it leaves the host body unprotected (unless, of course, the soul-self is being used as a shield, protecting the host body). If Dunedin’s body is harmed, it is reflected in the soul=self, and if the body is killed... well, the soul, too will die. Also, because it is a psychic manifestation of Dunedin’s soul, when it comes in contact with other living beings, the state of mind that being is in is imprinted into Dunedin’s mind. Whether it be horror, or anger, Dunedin feels the emotion as if it were his own.
THE POTENTIAL
ALIGNMENT/OCCUPATION: BPRD, rookie
WEAPONS: None
PERSONALITY: Cold, aloof, and unfeeling, Dunedin prefers to be a loner. Its not that he hates people, but he has felt so much pain, fear, anger, and loss in his life (usually caused by an uncontrolled outburst of his soul-self), he feels it is best for his own benefit to keep people at arm's length. He is distrustful and often a little paranoid, figuring it is best to be more cautious than not, especially when it comes to having to deal with people he doesn't know... which is just about everyone he sees.
He does love music though, and art, finding that he gravitates towards museums
and concerts when he does feel the need to immerse himself in social activities. He especially loves the violin, having taken up the instrument after he fled his birth home in Prague... using the coin he would collect from playing on the streets to feed and clothe himself.
SKILLS: Having been on the streets since a very young age, Dunedin’s streets smarts are better than most. He can navigate his way through large cities with relative ease, having a good sense of direction. He has learned how to fight, though only when he needs to, but would rather not engage anyone due to the fact that his control over his power is sketchy at best. He also is an accomplished, self-taught violinist, which has allowed him to be a rather successful street busker.
STRENGTHS: Dunedin excels is music and art, and probably would be in either profession if his life situation were different. He can decorate a room with a flair that many lack, and has an eye for fashion (especially women’s fashion). His lack of emotion lets him think with a clear head with a very practical way, allowing him to choose the most logical course of action.
WEAKNESSES: Because of his lack of emotion, Dunedin is often misunderstood, and doesn’t really have any friends to speak of. People tend to not want to get close to him for he is quick to brush them off, or just stare at them until they go away. This make shim untrusted by most, eve if he is quite the trustworthy individual.
THE STORY
HISTORY: Born in a brothel in the back streets of Prague by a woman who died while having him, Dunedin was raised by prostitutes. But, despite his
unfortunate upbringing, he was a happy child, and was well cared for. His
mother, Rune, was a favorite, and was well like by every lady that was employed there. So, when it came to taking him under their wing, there was a slew of women who quickly took up the mantle as "momma". But, despite being loved and coddled by a troop of women, Dunedin found himself in a tight situation when the brothel's new owner didn't approve of a twelve year old boy running loose in his business... he was to be sold into slavery.
This is when his powers first came into being.
When the man and two other men converged on him, Dunedin experienced such a
heightened state of fright, that his latent abilities burst forth. His eyes
glossed over black, and the aura around his body darkened like the sky after
sunset. And soon, the brother owner and his cohorts found themselves encased in a thick, tangible shadow that wrapped itself around each one... choking them, cutting off their air supply. Dunedin could feel the terror, the anger, like it was his own. It rattled him to the depths of his being and when death finally came to claim them, he could feel it. He felt like a demon, and with the screams of the men in his mind and now within his soul, he fled into the night.
Dunedin was never the same. The lingering feeling of death and terror lingered
on his mind, and he doubted that it would ever recede. And, as he learned how to live on the streets, his powers emerged several more times when confronted with danger. Each time, his assailants died, and each time, their last moments of terror stayed within Dunedin. This made the child, who was once cheerful,
bright, and engaging, become cold, angry, and fearful of himself.
The one time that he felt vindicated by using his strange and fearsome powers
was when he came upon a young street musician being gang raped in a dark
alleyway. When he powers come forth this time, Dunedin felt like he had
purpose... a need to save this young girl from the ravaging men who were forcing themselves on her. And even with the terror and the feeling of death that came with their defeat... the thankful look on the girl's face helped ease the emotions Dunedin was trying to repress. She gave him her violin; the only thing of value that she could give him, and kissed him tearfully and thankfully before running away.
This was another life changing moment for Dunedin. Even though he had the demonic ability to take people's lives, he could also protect those who were in need of saving. It fired his passion to not only master the violin which the girl gave him, but master his powers. So, in the years to come, he became a street busker by day, and mastered his powers by night. Soon, his natural talent at the violin was enough to pay for him to by fake papers and travel to the United States... there, he was found by agents of the BPRD protecting a homeless family from a street gang, and taken in as one of their own.
