THE HANDLER
NAME: Aislinn Marie Delainy (pronounces ASH-linn)
NICKNAME: ‘Linn or Marie (though she hates to be called by her middle name)
CLASSIFICATION: Human
GENDER: female
AGE & BIRTHDAY: November 16th, 1989, making her age 19 years old
APPEARANCE: Aislinn is a bit short for her age at only five foot four inches with broad shoulders and hips. Her weight can fluctuate at any given time between 135 and 140 lbs soaking wet but doesn’t often stray between those two weights. Her complexion is naturally very pale, making it nearly impossible for her to get a tan as her skin burns very easily. Her eyes are a light sort of blue with an almond shape to them and her hair naturally a light brown shade. She’s let grow out to about her shoulder blades where it has a natural wave to it. But as it can be hard to manage at times so Aislinn will often wear a knit hat or simply throws it up into a messy bun. Changes in her eyes occur however when she’s using her abilities: her pupils become wide and her eyes a much deeper shade of blue then normal. She has a heart shaped face with a small chin, high soft cheekbones, sharp nose and thin lips.
As for scars Aislinn doesn’t have many: a long scar is on the palm of her hand from when she was attempting to cook as a child and sliced her hand open accidentally. She also has a small scar on her knee from a minor surgery that was done when she was young to correct a bone abnormality. Other than her scars Aislinn is free from any other markings such as tattoos—she has a fear of needles that has prevented her from every getting any.
ATTIRE: When off duty Aislinn is all about casual clothes. Sweaters in the winter or a t-shirt in the summer months are the norm but dark blue wash jeans are a constant. Most of them are frayed around the cuffs as she can never seem to find jeans that are the exact right length for her height. Aislinn has a particular affection for long sleeved graphic t-shirts and Converse brand sneakers. One pair of sneakers in particular (classic black and white) have been worn for around 3 years and are more or less holding up well, the use having made them soft and flexible. As far as accessories off duty go Aislinn has a liking for knit hats, deer hunter hats especially (complete with fluff balls on the ends). She doesn’t wear much in the way of jewelry as she tends to fidget with rings and thus loose them and claims that necklaces and bracelets get in the way. Aislinn doesn’t like to show her shoulders either, her shoulders being her least favorite feature, and because of this she doesn’t own any spaghetti strap tank tops or sleeveless shirts.
On duty, though she doesn’t always like it, Aislinn wears closer fitting clothes, finding the baggier types of her every day wear easier to trip over. This means durable skinny jeans (even though they make her legs itch), a simple long sleeved t-shirt and her standard issue BPRD leather belt hanging around her waist as an angle. Shoes vary: most of the time she’ll wear a pair of sturdy combat-type boots though when she knows in advance that she going long distances on foot she’ll wear her Converse sneakers.

THE CREATION
NAME: Mieli (Finnish word for ‘mind’)
POWER LIST: Clairvoyance, Telepathy, Telekinesis
DETAILED POWER:
NOTE: None of these powers can be used in consort. In other words Aislinn can’t use her telekinesis and carry on a mental conversation while she herself is looking into the future. This would require too much concentration and a level of skill that she doesn’t possess.
Aislinn’s ability to see the future takes a rather odd form: instead of seeing entire scenes or even broad views Aislinn’s ability takes a more finite form. She’ll see the details; one object in a room (a lamp, a corner of a rug) or one physical feature of a person (their eyes, their shirt color) or place (an image on a door, an advertisement on a wall). These details she draws out in a notebook so that she has the vision for future reference and, though Aislinn is no great artist, most of her drawings looks like what they’re supposed to be. She can also look up things in the future—though this requires a great level of concentration and time. But even then she can’t look up an entire scene, only one object or characteristic of it. As for her controlling her power it’s kind of like a door: she can close the door but sometimes images slip in the cracks.
Her telepathy is what Aislinn has a harder time controlling. As a child she heard the thoughts of everyone around her unbidden, making her often confused when she heard things she wasn’t supposed to. Later in her life it became a two way street: Aislinn can hear the thoughts of those around her and also speak to them through her mind in a form of psychic communication. She isn’t able to project her thoughts loudly in the minds of others—sometimes getting drowned out by a person’s own inner monologue—and can only raise her ‘voice’ above the average conversation level. Though proximity to a person does help Aislinn hasn’t yet learned how to make her mental conversations private and may, without noticing, be letting her words leak into minds she wasn’t directing them towards. At this point her conversations are limited to around three consecutive minutes before the ‘line’ will break down and she hasn’t yet found a way to extend this amount of time.
Her ability of telekinesis is the one she’s weakest with. She can’t lift anything heavier than around 80 lbs or so and the combined weight of things she’s moving can’t exceed that weight. Lifting things clear off the ground is more difficult but she can psychically push them back or ‘throw’ them with more ease. Smaller objects are the easiest of all to move and can be moved when either the object or Aislinn herself is in motion. She has found that she has to be able to physically see what she’s attempting to move and that to move 2 or more objects at once requires her to be close to both. She practices with this every day in an attempt to get better at it, turning the pages of a book with her ability or closing a door. Luckily, unlike what is portrayed on television or in film, Aislinn doesn’t require any hand motions or head tilts to move smaller objects though a gesture of the hand does help with the larger things. And for some reason she’s found that pushing her limits with this ability in particular causes her to become physically ill very soon afterwards.
THE POTENTIAL
ALIGNMENT/OCCUPATION: rookie BPRD agent, has been around for about six months or so
WEAPONS: none besides her standard hand gun which she doesn’t know how to use
PERSONALITY: Having had her abilities from childhood Aislinn’s current personality has been slightly shaped by them, most of all her ability of clairvoyance. Being able to see the future doesn’t leave much room for fantastical notions or anything other than strict realism. Aislinn is a realist through and through, not allowing herself to believe in things she doubts will happen or doesn’t see happening. She also finds it impossible to live purely in the moment, always having access to future events and always attempting to either change them in some way or look rather in as the future changes. For this reason she can seem distracted or as if she were lost in her own thoughts, not fully paying attention to the present moment at times. Her telepathy—and thus Aislinn hearing things she was never meant too—has made her the perfect secret keeper. Those around her—even those she doesn’t know well--are able to tell Aislinn almost anything and she’ll be sure to keep their secret, having had access to people’s deepest secrets for quite some time. This also attributes to her being a realist: she doesn’t fool herself into thinking that people can suddenly change or be something that they aren’t as she can—if she wished—have access to their every thought.
On the surface Aislinn is a normal and yet very independent nineteen year old woman, who, most noticeably, seems to be at least a few steps ahead of everyone else and thus in a bit of a rush. Even without her abilities she would be this way—having a slightly impatient nature and having no patience for people who do things at a casual pace or take a longer amount of time to do a task. Because of this she can seem rather short with people who take a more casual approach to life or who dwell heavily on things. Aislinn has a heavy problem with just sitting still and doing nothing, always wanted to be on the move towards something; be it a goal (like finishing a book or a task) or an actual destination (making her way to her room or the café). Getting her to slow down can be a difficult thing as she has slowly become more and more interested in what’s going to happen instead of what is. She can often be found sitting, curled up in a corner or in a chair with her sketchbook on her lap, completely preoccupied with the snapshots of the future that run through her brain.
Aislinn has tried in her life to be friendly, but hearing the persons every ill thought about her and those around her can make having friends difficult. She has yet to find more than one or two select people whose thoughts she can stomach enough to be around them let alone become their friend. This doesn’t make her anti social however; it simply makes it difficult for her to warm up to people. She’s willing to strike up a conversation with someone but at times she can seem a bit distant and this can be interoperated as unfriendly, most people in her life not sticking around long enough after that for her to warm up to them. So friends in her previous life (before the BPRD) were few yet dear. She recognizes this and therefore, any friends that Aislinn does manage to accumulate she’ll do her best to warrant their sticking around for so long.
The only part of her life Aislinn isn’t rushing forward in is her social life and in what she finds fun. She isn’t a thrill seeker and much prefers to quieter forms of entertainment. Aislinn likes to spend her time in doors, not being one to go out to big extravagant parties with lots of people. She would much prefer taking her sketchbook to the local unknown coffee house or reading a book in her room to a jam packed concert or a night out at the bar. Aislinn enjoys art and classical novels as well rock, indie and alternative music. In what she does for fun she prefers not to call attention to herself, finding the feeling of so many eyes on her unnerving.
SKILLS: It was in high school that Aislinn picked up a few odd talents. One of them was learning how to make friendship bracelets out of colored string woven together from watching other girls around her. She became fairly good at it but stopped making them during the period of time post high school graduation and pre BPRD. She will make a few now and again but not on request and only for specific people. She also has been told she has very nice handwriting, both cursive and non cursive. From her short period of living on the streets Aislinn knows the best places to get cheap food and various ways to use a microwave outside of what one would normally think to use it for.
STRENGTHS: Aislinn can be extremely resourceful when she’s in a pinch, able to use almost anything around her to help her get out of or into a situation. She also can be extremely observant, very good at picking out and recognizing little details of a person or a room.
WEAKNESSES: Because of her observant nature Aislinn can often miss the big picture, spending too much time focusing on the individual pieces. She also tends to isolate herself when she becomes upset or is hurt. She’s also notoriously bad at remembering names and matching them to faces. She has to be told someone’s’ name at least 3 times before she even has a hope of remembering it.
THE STORY
HISTORY: Aislinn grew up in a small, middle of nowhere town in Ohio with her step-mother and birth father as an only child—her birth parents having divorced when she was around four. Around the age of seven years old Aislinn began to mention her ability to hear the thoughts to others around her and, after several attempts to tell someone and being written off as ‘imaginative’, vowed to keep it a secret.
When Aislinn was twelve her birth mother once again filed for visitation rights to her daughter in court and was granted a ‘test period’ (a period of partial and heavily monitored custody) to be sure that she could be a fit parent and allowed full rights. Aislinn’s birth mother had been trying to obtain some sort of visitation rights for about half a year—having been fully denied them due to some past trouble with prescription drug abuse. This forced Aislinn to move all the way from her small town in Ohio to the farm lands of Lancaster, New jersey for the summer. It was here Aislinn developed her ability of clairvoyance. (Now she recognizes that she’s always had it and never noticed it—her visions being mistake as dreams-- but back then it seemed it suddenly arose after the move.) It was also during her stay in Lancaster that Aislinn discovered her abilities weren’t exclusive: her mother was clairvoyant as well. And while it wasn’t the cause of her parents’ divorce Aislinn knew it was definitely a strain. Because of this at that time instead of viewing her mother’s abilities as a gift she had been given Aislinn grew to see it as a curse.
When she returned to Ohio Aislinn hardly spoke of her growing abilities—even as her clairvoyance grew stronger of its own accord and the images became more frequent. It was during this time, during the start of her last year of middle school at 13, that Aislinn began drawing. She found that if she wasn’t going to tell anyone of her abilities then at the very least putting the images onto paper got them out of her head and allowed her to focus. This solution successfully worked for nearly three years, Aislinn filling note pad after note pad with drawings.
However, as she progressed into junior year of high school at 15 her clairvoyance and telepathy became a big distraction, the onslaught of thoughts and images making it to difficult to focus on her school work. Aislinn’s grades dropped as a result and, after yet another particularly bad fight on the subject, sent Aislinn to the nearest airport to catch a plane to New Jersey. So, from the age of 15 to 17 she lived with her mother, completing junior year with average grades and going to visit her father during the summer (affectively reversing the roles of her parents). She was about to finish high school when her father fought back, having told the police her birth mother was selling prescription drugs and was using Aislinn in the process, having convinced her through coercion and that she was suddenly –as if that wasn’t enough--crazed with delusions of the future. It seemed he was fed up with the summer visits and since all other honest means of regaining his daughter had failed Aislinn’s father had to resort to drastic measures. And, the worst part being because it had been a snap decision both woman had never seen it coming.
One moment Aislinn was starting to consider her college options and the next the Lancaster police were on her doorstep, ready to arrest her mother under drug charges and take her into state custody. In Aislinn’s mind she had no other choice by to run away. She resorted to living on the streets and couch hopping until she was 18 (and thus a legal adult), in affect hiding from the police that believed she had been brainwashed by her ‘crazy’, drug selling mother. It was during this time that Aislinn allowed her powers to, in a way, consume her. She was constantly focusing on the future and the thoughts of others, on the lookout for police who were considered her a missing person. It was because of this long period of time she spent accessing her psychic abilities that another soon developed: Aislinn’s telekinesis. It began slowly, very small things seeming to move with no obvious provocation and it was at least a month of these things happening before Aislinn realized it was she causing them and before she began to attempt to build this skill as well.
It was part by chance that Aislinn was discovered by the BPRD. She was simply sure she was at the right place at the right time, using her telepathy to manipulate her glass of water in a restaurant that a member of BPRD was in and making sure he took notice. Several days later the BPRD contacted her, at first offering her a place to stay and then upgrading her to a rookie agent once all of her powers came to light.
NOTE: Aislinn has since gotten her GED, the equivalent of a high school diploma, by completing the required tests with the help of a short period of home schooling.
