This is basically going to be a collection of files/diaries/notes related to everyone's favourite rusalka. First of all I'll be making a Bureau file on Ludmila's old team-mates from the war.
File #44, WW2 Soviet Activities and Operators:
Special Operations Group 1:
Assembled in 1940 by order of Stalin, team members found by S.S.S. director Varvara. Agent Ludmila Ilyukhin was made leader of the group for reasons of political reliability and surveillance. Special Operations Group 1 was active from 1940 to 1953.
Father Konstantin Klimenko, alias Father K:
An Orthodox priest of Ukrainian origins who lived in a monastery in the middle of Lake Ladoga. The monastery was tolerated by Soviet authorities until the outbreak of the Winter War, during which all the monks were forcefully deported for (supposedly) collaborating with Finnish troops. In 1940 father Klimenko was taken from an unnamed Siberian gulag by Varvara and assigned to Special Operations Group 1.
-Talents: extensive arcane knowledge.
Post-dissolution activities: Father Klimenko repeatedly got into trouble with Soviet authorities for criticising the State's atheist policies and opposing religious repression. Was briefly imprisoned during the 1950s before being sent to the Ukraine and kept under house arrest until the 1980s. Current whereabouts unknown.
Ivan Shulganov, alias Partizan:[/i]
A Jewish Belorussian peasant turned partisan. Organised local resistance against the Nazis after his family was murdered by the S.S. After a successful German raid his group was destroyed and he was forced to flee to Moscow, where he was recruited by Varvara.
-Talents: expert in guerrilla warfare and covert operations.
Post-dissolution activities: Left the Soviet Union in 1954 and moved to Israel where he joined a Kibbutz. No further military involvement from then on, although he mysteriously disappeared in 1999. Current whereabouts unknown.
Timu Panyuk:[/b]
A Native Siberian shaman targeted early on by Soviet authorities for his shamanistic beliefs. His tribe was, like many others, forced to adopt a sedentary way of life. Timu chose not to oppose the Soviets for fear of repression. He was recruited by Varvara for his purported shape-shifting abilities.
-Talents: could transform into an enormous bear or a wolf.
Post-dissolution activities: Returned to Siberia in 1953 and did his best to help his people adjust to forced collectivisation and sedentarisation. Became an outspoken critic of the government in the 1980s. Current whereabouts unknown.
Professor Mikhail Chiornikov:[/b]
An eccentric and brilliant scientist known for creating extraordinary mechanical devices. A staunch Menchevik supporter, he was imprisoned several times after the October Revolution before being freed in 1936. He was quickly recruited by Varvara and a few years later was assigned to Special Operations Group 1.
-Talents: extensive scientific knowledge and weapons expert. Designed and built many of the devices used by his fellow team-mates.
Post-dissolution activities: Chiornikov worked for the S.S.S. for several years and designed several cryonic preservation devices. Current whereabouts unknown.
Elena Voronov:[/b]
The only other female member of the team and a witch. Little is known about her save for the fact she betrayed her comrades and was summarily executed by agent Ilyukhin in 1944.
Krilov:
Not much is known about Krilov's past except for his internment in a mental asylum for his pyromania. He burned the asylum down in 1930 due to his latent pyrokinetic abilities and was recruited by Varvara soon after. Professor Chiornikov built him a suit that enabled him to summon fire at will and gave him extensive control over it.
-Talents: pyrokinesia.
Post-dissolution activities: Krilov, much like agent Ilyukhin, stayed with the S.S.S. until the 1990s. Not much is known of his activities save for the fact he vanished in 1999.
Reasons for the dissolution of Special Operations Group 1:
The S.O.G. 1 was officially dissolved in 1953, soon after the death of Stalin. The official reason for this dissolution was that the Group had fulfilled its original purpose and was no longer relevant. Information divulged by agent Ilyukhin has, however, hinted at other more covert reasons:
- Tension and conflict between the Group's members was cited as one of the main reasons of the break-up. With the war over and Stalin dead, those of the group that had been persecuted by the Soviet regime turned on agent Ilyukhin and after a particularly bad argument left the S.S.S.
- The S.S.S. feared that the Group's members had grown too close to each other, and began to consider them a potential threat.
- The Terezin Incident. Although we have no information regarding this "incident", it seemed to have had a certain impact on the Group and the S.S.S.
