The Handler
Name: Kamui
Nickname: Brat, Fox, Baka, Come-back-here-so-I-can-skin-you!!
Classification: kitsune
Gender: male (most of the time)
Age & Birthday: 410, October, 12th
Appearance:
In full-human form: At a diminutive 4’11”, and a fragile-seeming 88lbs, Kamui might be easily mistaken for a child. In fact, he’s rather amused by that misperception and on occasion actively promotes it. In truth, he possesses a wiry strength so he is tougher than he appears... though no stronger than you'd think. He has a triangular face with high-cheekbones, often described as fey, fox-ish, or gamine, and large silver eyes framed by thick, long eyelashes. His hair, one of his sources of pride and vanity, is thigh-length, silky black, and kept scrupulously tied back in a braid or ponytail. His skin is pale, but dusted with freckles across cheeks, nose, chin and forehead. On his left cheekbone, near his eye, he bears a birthmark in the shape of three diamonds, two in a direct line, one off to the side. On occasion, Kamui amuses himself by shifting into a female human form, which looks much the same, only with significantly different anatomy. Curvy, but slender… proportional to the still 4’11” height.
In half-fox form: Much like his human form, only this time with an addition of pair of large black fox ears, and a plumy black fox tail (tipped with white) The fur on ears and tail are about the texture and feel of chinchilla fur, though longer. Optionally he can show all of his tails (all four that he currently has) or he can choose to show only one.
In full-fox form: A small, fluffy black fox, roughly the size of a cat. His birthmark appears on his forehead in fox form, the color of pewter. Again, his fur is comparable to chinchilla fur, or possibly softer. As in his half-fox form, he can choose to show all of his tails or simply one.
Attire: Kamui hasn’t met a color he doesn’t like, and loves outlandish clothing in odd styles with plenty of details. He usually combines multiple colors, looking rather like a dye-factory threw up on him. His favorite clothing style, oddly enough, seems to be an imitation of gypsy style.
The Creation
Name: Kamui
Power List:Limited Shape-shifting, Illusion
Detailed Power:
Shape-shifting: Kamui can shift into full-human form, half-fox form, or full-fox form. He cannot shift into any human likeness that he wishes, only the female or male versions of himself. This is true of half-fox form which is in essence exactly like human only with the ears and tail. (It is, btw, his preferred form) In fox form, he communicates by a rather primitive version of telepathy involving images. (This can, on occasion, lead to a great deal of confusion as to what he means by those images) The telepathy has a limited range... essentially restricted to within hearing distance. You have to be close enough to hear his voice... if he could speak. He can private send one-on-one... or broad send to anyone within hearing distance... just like you might whisper to one person or speak normally to anyone within hearing distance. He can "shout" to get a slightly greater distance... but runs the risk of getting a nasty headache in doing so.
Illusion: Kamui can create illusions by actually warping light waves. They can range in complexity from rough sketchy images, to complex, realistic representations. The larger and more complex the illusion, the more energy it takes, and the greater concentration needed. He cannot affect any other sense except sight, but can make that convincing enough you might con yourself into believing you smelled the cinnamon from that sticky-bun floating in the air in front of you. Because his talent does not rely on tricking the mind, his illusions will fool inanimate objects (ie: cameras, light-sensors, etc.) Currently, he can reach a range of two arms-lengths from his body, but larger than that he either has to make it quite basic or abandon the attempt all together.
The Potential
Alignment/Occupation: Amoral/Neutral, unaffiliated
Weapons: None (unless you count his legs for running away)
Personality: Kamui's demeanor is unfailingly ebullient. He can remain cheerful even in extreme situations, and does his best to keep up the spirits of those around him. It's sometimes more illusion than truth, but he doggedly keeps up the appearance of cheer, regardless. Unfortunately this can lead him to take situations less seriously than they warrant, and often gets him into serious trouble. Fortunately he can usually use his silver tongue to extricate himself... though not always. He is intensely curious, to the point where he will do or say things that even he acknowledges weren't the wisest choice, just to satisfy that curiosity.
Kamui has a remarkable capacity for memory. He does not have a photographic memory by any stretch, but given a few minutes of study, can replicate what he sees with astonishing (not flawless) accuracy. However, the secret to this ability is actually that he needs input from his other senses. IE: To recall a face, he needs to associate a smell, taste, touch, or sound that happened when he saw the face. His memory is far less vivid without that secondary clue. Because of this, scent, sounds, tastes and especially touch are much more significant to him than to most. They can also trigger the odd, sometimes unpleasant memory. Unhappy events are recalled with the same clarity as happy events and if a second sense is associated… Kamui cannot conveniently forget them.
Due to the kitsune love of seduction, or perhaps because his ability is so very non-tactile, or even because of his odd way of memorizing things… Kamui is an intensely physical, sensual being. Kamui adores cuddling, touching, and contact with others. It does not mean the same level of affection to him as it might to someone else. He’s just addicted to touch. Though, he does have a particular love of erotic or intimate contact. He actually suffers when isolated, particularly from tangible contact. Once fixed in his mind, the memories will not fade... not with time or deliberate attempt.
Kamui is not book learned. Because of his travel, he can speak several languages, but cannot read anything except Japanese. He is quite an acrobat, but his actual combat skills are severely limited. He prefers to trick, or talk his way out of trouble, or outright flee. When that fails… he’s usually in deep doo-doo. He’s a bundle of energy and it’s a trial for him to sit still for long periods of time. His attention span is short because of it. He is hyper to the point of irritating at times, unless his attention is engaged. He is not STUPID by any means... but because of his energy level he can appear to be air-headed. Beware though: just because it doesn't APPEAR that his attention is on you... it may be anyway... and just when you think he's not listening, he'll repeat your words exactly. His attention is wandering to pick up that additional sense to cement the memories.
He also has a rather unfortunate penchant for pranks, tricks, lies, and deceptions. Kamui’s sense of morals are rather distinctly NOT human, and nothing you say can convince him that he is in the wrong. He isn’t, according to his own set of morals which he follows quite strictly. He will unfailingly repay any kindness or favor done to him… even to the point of stealing from someone else to give to the person he favors. He is vicious to those who cross him… not fist-to-fist or even face-to-face… but with cruel stunts played out on the unwary. He is (again not held by human morals) not above striking at those associated with the person who has crossed him. And doing so with a rather feral grin.
He is still considered young by kitsune standards, though his mental age and maturity is roughly equivalent to that of a human in their twenties. Kamui, however, rarely acts his age or even his "equivalent" age. He prefers to let others underestimate him. On rare occasions though, his real maturity will suddenly make an appearance, usually when he's startled, or attempting to hearten someone who is despairing, or when faced with extremely stressful situations.
Skills:Acrobatics, fluently speaks Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, English, Gaelic, German, and Russian… does not read a single word of anything except Japanese (and even that is read poorly)
Strengths: Kamui has a positive genius for tricks and deception. He is unflaggingly energetic, unwaveringly loyal (once you earn it), and just about manically cheerful. He’s quite playful and more than happy to help entertain and amuse the bored or depressed.
Weaknesses: In a fist-fight, fire-fight, or any direct combat, Kamui is all but useless. He can be unpredictable due to his high energy and in-human morals. He has a deep mistrust, even phobia of all things medical, or lab related… especially the humans involved in such institutions. He also has a rather debilitating physical weakness in his ears and tail. His ears and tail are incredibly sensitive. Stroking his ears with the right pressure will put him into a light hypnotic trance, continue this long enough and he will slide into sleep. Ears and tail are also sensitive to pain, so a harsh squeeze or blow to them is several times more painful than an equivalent blow to a human. Additionally, if you stroke his tail with firm but not painful pressure, it arouses an uncontrollable sexual desire/need within him akin to animals in heat.
The Story
History: Kamui’s childhood was much like any kitsune kit’s. His parents doted on him, adored him, did their best to guide and raise him. His parents were quite fond of traveling the world, indulging in one of their favorite pastimes: human-watching… and sometimes, human-baiting. They taught Kamui how to see the potential for pranks and tricks, how to defend himself with those tricks, and how to pass himself off as a human… as well as many other skills.
Ordinarily kitsune do not gain their second tail until they reach the age of 1000, but Kamui had the rare opportunity to save a number of kitsune with a well-timed, well-executed trick played on nearby hunters. In doing this, he brought honor to his family and gained his second tail at the "tender" age of 200. Since then, he has gained two others at the normal rate and in the normal way... he just had an 800 year head start.
Unfortunately, long before Kamui was of an age to be on his own, he and his parents stumbled across some rather unscrupulous, and unfortunately powerful humans. They were caught and imprisoned in a lab, separated from each other and experimented on to find the cause of their “mutation”. Years of such treatment led to a deep fear of hospitals, labs and the staff associated with them. His parents, sadly, did not survive the experience. Kamui managed to charm one of the staff members into freeing him, and escaped. However, the owners of the lab were not happy with losing their prisoner and seek to regain possession of him.
Kamui wants nothing more than to escape back to his people, but dares not lead the humans to them. He hides as best he can among the other humans, and wishes that he could find somewhere safe. Somewhere to be himself without fear of imprisonment, assault, or other danger. He travels restlessly, moving on whenever he is discovered… which is becoming increasingly more frequent with today’s technology and paper trails.
