The Handler
Name: Kael’thor of the Seas (formerly ‘of the Dancing Blade’)
Nickname: He most commonly goes by Kael
Classification: Hydrokinetic elf
Gender: Male
Age & Birthday: He was originally born sometime in the beginning of June; his “Rebirth” occurred October 14th, 1718
Appearance: As is to be expected of an elf, Kael’thor is tall and willowy, limbs long and features delicate. He’s around 6’2” and weighs roughly 170lbs., most of it muscle. Due to what he calls his “Rebirth” though, Kael tends to look a bit more frail than the rest of his people. His pale flesh holds a bluish tint and, depending on the angle light strikes him, scintillates with a rainbow hue like fish scales; close inspection though reveals that his skin texture is no different than any other elf, if perhaps a bit cooler. Furthermore, rather than the typical shimmering silver locks dipped with gold that his people are known for, Kael’s hair is streaked with light blue; the length and texture haven’t changed. When Kael is using his powers though, his hair darkens to a deep ocean blue and flows about him as though he were underwater (whilst on dry land, obviously). A pair of matching brands that adorn his jawbone on either side of his face also begin glowing. These markings are nothing more than thick, wavy lines 3 inches long that follow the contours of his jawbone. Small circles rest at the end of each ‘line’ and one slightly larger one sits just above the dip in he line where it curves with his jawbone.
Further distancing his appearance from his people are his eyes. Centuries ago his eyes were the lustrous golden hue his people are known for, but after his Rebirth they turned an opalescent blue-green, as deep and fathomless as the ocean itself. When near a significant source of fresh water, his eyes appear more green than blue; if the water source is saline, they are bluer.
Though his body was reborn beneath the waves that day almost three hundred years ago, Kael’s lithely muscular frame is heavily scarred, denoting the warrior lifestyle he led before. The most distinguishing are a long, smooth line that crosses from his right hip to his left pectoral, and one that looks like a huge wild cat raked its claws across his middle back; three slightly diagonal, close together lines.
The scent of a fresh sea breeze seems to linger around him.
Attire: When beneath the waves that he calls home, Kael very much prefers to go naked; clothing hampers movement and weighs one down when underwater. On the occassion that he must venture into civilization, Kael dresses in a simplistic modern style, usually just a button down shirt and slacks and a pair of loafers or sandles. The hair and ears draw a few curious glances, but usually nothing more. People in this day and age are used to 'non-conformists', after all.
If he is meeting with his people, Kael dons an Elven tunic, boots and sash resplendant with dark greens, dark blues and black; colours of the sea.
The Creation
Name: --
Power List: Hydrokinesis and underwater breathing.
Detailed Power:
Hydrokinesis - Since Kael'thor's Rebirth, he's discovered that he is capable of controlling water. Now while he can't force a river to flood its banks or flow wildly off course, he can do pretty much whatever he pleases with a volume of water equal to that which can fill a fair-sized swimming pool; although, the more water he attempts to manipulate the more strain it puts on him. Kael can force an amount of water to levitate, freeze or boil. He achieves the best results while calm and able to concentrate, but in a tight spot he's found he can pull off stunts on a smaller scale to serve as a distraction or what have you.
Aside from volume, the only other limitation to Kael's powers is that he must have a source of water readily available, he cannot just create water out of nothing for his purposes (though he can "pull" water droplets out of the air or moist soil).
Underwater Breathing - After his Rebirth Kael'thor can breathe water like air.
The Potential
Alignment/Occupation: Nuada’s Army
Weapons: Kael keeps a pair of long knives that resemble shark fins strapped to his waist at all times. He also owns a longer blade, but rarely carries it with him.
Personality: In his heart of hearts, Kael'thor is the type who would rather sit and discuss differences with his enemy over tea than to have it come to blows. Magnanimous and insatiably curious, Kael is quick to forgive and forget, especially when offered a tidbit of lore or a chance to discuss something (just about anything). He can be red in the face and about to draw blade when someone will say, "Hey! Did you know...?" and it's like flicking a light switch. Even a good knock-knock joke can pique Kael's curiosity - but it would have to be a good one. He's not easily annoyed, but even Kael has his limits.
Right now, more than anything, Kael'thor is mostly sad. Seeing what the world has come to due to human greed and indifference has placed him in a mild depression. And he feels betrayed. That the humans would disregard the Truce so quickly and destroy his people along with planet hurts and appalls him. He doesn't truly believe that rivers of blood, Nuada's chosen path, will lead to peace, but Kael is a staunch believer in necessity and has the resolve to back it up. Kael'thor never hesitates to do what needs to be done. So while Nuada's course is harsh, brutal and bloody, Kael realizes something must be done about the human world, and reluctantly embraces his Prince's decree. He refuses to see the world fall to pollution, greed and corruption; no matter what is necessary to prevent; no matter how much blood, human and magical, must be spilled.
Not to say Kael'thor doesn't have a happier side, but it is rarely seen. Smiles are small and portray sorrow, laughter usually nothing more than a crinkling of his eyes and a small shake of his head with the corners of his lips twitching. Only when discussing something of interest does Kael's heart appear to stir, his speech animated, his hands and face expressive, and he displays a much broader array of emotion. Swimming with dolphins has a similar affect on him.
Skills: Like many Elves, Kael is a swordsman of deadly skill, and a talented fighter. Also tied to his heritage, he is an artistic harp player, and used to play for hours on end before he became depressed.
He also makes beautiful seashell jewellry and trinkets.
Most notably though, Kael'thor has an incredible memory and is capable of memorising and reciting long passages (read or heard). After all, one can't always have a pen and pad ready when words of wisdom are being spoken, nor can it always be feasible to make off with a heavy tome or a fragile bit of parchment.
Strengths: Kael'thor possesses a resolve that sees him through just about anything. He does not back down when he feels he's in the right, and he does not shy away from things just because they are unpleasant. If something needs to be done, you can count on Kael.
Furthermore, as part of the changes Kael underwent in his Rebirth, he is perfectly comfortable in lower temperatures, often wearing thin clothing in weather that would make most of us bring a jacket or at least wear a thick sweater.
Obviously, he's also a very powerful swimmer, and as an individual who so avidly pursues knowledge, Kael is a living encyclopedia of information and lore; he always has an answer to something.
Weaknesses: As a being closely tied to water, Kael is susceptible to high temperatures and heat stroke begins to set into his body if the temperature is higher than thirty-two degrees Celsius. Close proximity to open flame also makes him uncomfortable and very anxious; he will fidget and cast dark glares in the direction of the flame until it is put out or he moves away from it (no, candles do not perturb him).
And while we all know the old adage 'curiosity killed the cat', Kael'thor is either ignorant of it, or simply chooses to ignore it; Kael simply cannot take "I don't know" for an answer and will seek out the information he wants himself if need be - heedless of any potential (or obvious) danger.
The Story
History:
Once upon a time a black star fell from eternal skies into the mighty ocean and with it's downfall drowned a ship sailing the calm blue waters. Falling deep into the seawater abyss the black star gave the last of its magic gleam to the ocean water and gave it birth. Once come to life the seawater opened its welcoming arms to the remains of the sea ship and the dead bodies of those who sailed it. All but one of the bodies slipped into the bottomlessness of the ocean, all but one - one, that came in touch with the black star's living water and was itself infused with the undying energy of it's glow.
And a man who once walked the earth and sailed the sea awoke; himself now part of the ocean water and part of the black star's dark legacy.
And water of the mighty ocean fell in love with that man and thus took a human-like shape to approach him and welcome him in a new stage of his existence. But the newly reborn rejected the water spirit's affection and reached for the surface to find a way back to the wold of the living and human things...
